Bandwidth monitoring - whats up?

Click for full size
I have just checked my bandwidth usage and was surprised to see a validation notification. As you can see I'm only at 26.35% and the notification says I'm at 85%???? And also I have recieved no notifications from the system and yes I have checked my spam and junk email filters. Better not see this reflected in my monthly bill.

Has anyone else noticed this?

(Time of call to tech June 12 7:10AM) Just got off the phone with tech support requesting them to open up a ticket for this. The tech support rep said I had nothing to worry about and did not open a ticket. He assured me I had nothing to worry about.

I don't know about that. Good thing those tech support calls are recorded.

Yah lawsuits. Because if their measuring devices are not up to snuff, and not governed by Measurement Canada, then I call into question the validity of their billing system. Which means over time they are possibly over charging by grand sums. So yes, lawsuits.

HEY! I was waiting for someone to bring this up . But, one may argue, how can you measure something that's not visible?

If I was still with Cogeco, I'd ask them to break out the type of traffic also but that's me being evil. I can probably say that none of their devices have been certified by Measurement Canada, but this may be an extreme case...but would be interesting to see that reason wind its way through the courts.

I measure natural gas just fine. Hydro measures electricity just fine. All our instruments and meters have to be certified by Measurement Canada.

How does one determine what measurement tools must be certified by Measurement Canada? Or rather, what makes certain delivery services subject to measurement, and others not?

lol, that's not what I meant exactly, but I see your point . I guess it would come down to what is the definition of transit...are DHCP Requests transit?...are ARP requests transit? would it simply be the transit that falls outside of those ports?...

»www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/mc-mc.nsf/···006.html answers what is measured by Measurement canada and what isn't...

It would require some movement on the part of our government to regulate how Internet Traffic is measured...so good luck with that...I should have read what they regulated before I spoke .

Thats not up to me, but whatever they are counting in their bitcaps had best be laid out and accurate.

At this point I have not received any updates on the progress being made investigating this. I'll be sure to send you a PM if I hear anything specifically about your account (or this issue in general). Thanks very much for your patience ! I will be sure to poke certain people for info if they're not forthcoming with it.
