This company is starting to become a real joke. Starting? |

| reply to NRG The money they are going to spend on man power to take calls is going to be huge. Or wait time is going to be insane. Either way still benefical with there profit margin on cap overage.
Its going to be
Even worse customer service higher rates less usage
all in all poor prduct at a high price. I will continue be slave of this company because bell will never put 5mb lines in my area |

@cgocable.net | reply to NRG The funny thing is I would not mind being ripped off at this price if limits were near 2-3hundered gigs |

"COGECO monitors the amount of traffic to and from all modems to identify usage above the bandwidth limitations. If the Customer exceeds this limit, the Customer may be charged up to a maximum of $10 per 1 Gigabyte for both upstream and/or downstream traffic. Please go to »www.cogeco.ca/internetrates in order to get the most current fee."
Good luck getting $10/GB, COGECO.. |

From that site I only see $1 on Pro or $1.50 on the Standard package... I assume most customers fall under these packages.. |

Cogeco says that is "network abuse" and sends them a $500,000 bill at the end of the month. |

| reply to NRG The only ISP I know of that actually does charge $10/GB extra is NWTel (Northwestel). Except they put it in even harder to understand terms .. They give you a data cap in GB then they charge overage per MB, $0.01/MB. |

they said 1.50 per gb... thats all i know of... but again cogecos ass is grass when i can get DSL..i have had nothing but bad service since 2006.. shitty cable tv still..get weird lines and bad reception on an off..they were going to replace my cable line but they never did that either.. i even talked to CARLOS the supervisor but apparenlty that didnt help either..
i should get like a year free internet... 6 techs came in 06 and no one knew what was giong....and no cable line replaced..and the problem persists on and off 3 years later |

| reply to NRG I really feel sorry for a lot of you guys that are unable to switch providers.
I moved away from Cogey to Teksavvy, & have never been happier. 200GB a month cap, with 650KBS download speeds. Hell, I can get multi line MLPPP if I wanted, & bond 2 or more lines to my service [10Mbit/160Kbit], & get 400GB+ cap a month. They offer unlimited bandwitdth for just $10 extra a month. Overage charges are ~$0.15 a gig.
120 day retention Usenet service, static IP, allowed to run servers, all for $4 a month extra, on top of $29.99 a month.
No long term contracts [month to month billing], fantastic Customer Service, & Tech Support. I am so glad I switched, I truly hope some of you get an opportunity to do what I did; you will never look back. -- ...virtue gives you heraldry. |

To be fair, Cogeco's new server is also well over 200 days. I did manage a 298 day old post (which wasn't on TS) as my personal record.
Other than that, TS is a superior service in all regards except speed. Unfortunately I can only get about 1M due to my location, but for $35/mo it's cheaper to use TS than to pay Cogeco overages. |

I have to admit, had Cogey not embarked on their capping campaign, I would still be a customer; They do offer a decent service [albeit a very expensive one].
I have found, though, for my needs I don't have to have the ultimate fast speeds purported by Cogey. I am more than happy with my 5Meg line, but 200GB bandwidth with the DSLR rated Gold Award ISP in Canada: Teksavvy. I never get close to my cap of 200 Gigabyte, usually averaging about 90GB a month, but it's so nice to have, as well as knowing I can upgrade to unlimited bandwidth for just $10 more.
If Cogey would have offered something similar to, in my opinion the best ISP in Canada, Teksavvy, I would still be a customer. Alas, they didn't; so their loss I suppose. I was a customer of many years as well.
There where many calls on this Forum, for a 5Meg plan, with a decent cap: Cogey ignored all those pleas... -- ...virtue gives you heraldry. |
