Ok so the bandwidth monitoring tool was down from Tuesday Night to sometime yesterday. I called in yesterday morning to report a problem and to get an idea what my bandwidth was at. The friendly rep told me my account was at 104 gigs (I am on Soho Standard). When the bandwidth monitor came back up That is what the total was for up to the 15th. I just got up and checked it now and guess what There is a difference of 10 gigs in what he told me as of 10 am yesterday ad a difference of 16 gigs total. Not only does the meter only update once a day, now when we do call in we can't get a accurate count of what the bandwidth totals are just read of of what the bandwidth tool says.

Well today is Friday the 19th of June and the Monitor is still down and with this being the month that we have to pay you would think the system would be up and working properly.

I have a strange feeling that come some time next month people are going to open there bills and see extra charges that shouldn't be there and Cogeco is going to end up losing a bunch of customers.

I don't understand how they can charge for overages if they can't properly meter their services..

Mine is showing 0 for both upload and download for the past 4 days. Then again I am not going to complain about it not reporting my usage. I kinda hope it stays this way.

Mine has been accurate up til yesterday, which also shows 0.

And I know I did about 5 gigs, heaviest day so far this month.

Been trying to use my 'secondary' Teksavvy account to see how much usage I could trim. So far would still be under the cap even on Standard.

I'll miss the speed a bit especially with the new usenet service, but I cannot justify the price for Pro any longer.

Anyway, not sure what happened yesterday, I suspect that it will likely be caught up in some way later in the month. Maybe it will simply be a 'bonus' for those days, but I doubt it

It's quite possible they zero'd it to stop the panicking. They don't yet have it quite right and realize everyone is expecting to get billed this month, so they're saying "okay, here you go, another free month." Just guessing, but it makes sense.

here's a direct quote from my overage email received on Friday. See if you can spot the contradiction

"You have reached 100% of your Internet usage monthly limit.

You have reached the MAXIMUM of your Internet usage monthly limit. Additional usage charges will be credited this month. Charges for additional usage will not take effect until June 2009."

I also show 40GB of useage on June 1st while each day after shows normal daily habits. Good job Cogeco. Combined with the increased rate for the Pro package, your overage charges are already forcing me to consider other tv and internet providers.

Do you have any idea how incompetent they have to be for the IPDR byte accounting to still be an issue? It boggles the mind.

That of course is one avenue. The other avenue is that whatever they have missed they'll tag on in a single days usage. So if I am the upstanding citizen checking my bandwidth every day and I see constant 0000's, then suddenly a week later it shows me at 59.8Gigs with 1 week left in the month, then I would also have a problem with that. Since obviously I cannot monitor my bandwidth effectively any overage I would kindly tell them to shove.
Make no mistake, when money is involved this system better be as pure as the driven snow...

So here is a couple interesting notes:

So far its tracking fairly close to my usage this month, according to my router. Not sure if you can see this picture but it shows BW usage for the last 3 months. Noting that it tells me that overage charges will be credited for the months of May and April. May shows 60482MB and April shows 38053M.
While May is close to the cap, it is not over, and April is far from it.

I think what this might do is force users to suck down every byte of their Cap to use their connection to the fullest. Before you never cared, because you could always just get what you wanted, when you wanted. But now since its monitored I know I am going to make sure that take full advantage every month.
