At best, they are the same as Cogeco.<br><br>So, why would Cogeco listen? While I hear the arguments that it isn't Cogeco's fault there's no competition (and I don't disagree with that), it IS Cogeco's decision to, in spirit, collude with Rogers and Bell to offer limited choice. <br><br>In other words, to take advantage of the situation.<br><br>Why? Because there's no reason not to.]]></description>

I never get close to my cap of 200 Gigabyte, usually averaging about 90GB a month, but it's so nice to have, as well as knowing I can upgrade to unlimited  bandwidth for just $10 more.<br><br>If Cogey would have offered something similar to, in my opinion  the best ISP in Canada, <A HREF="http://www.teksavvy.com/">Teksavvy</a>, I would still be a customer. Alas, they didn't;  so their loss I suppose. Overage charges are ~$0.15 a gig.<br><br>120 day retention Usenet service, static IP, allowed to run servers, all for $4 a month extra, on top of $29.99 a month.<br><br>No long term contracts [month to month billing], fantastic Customer Service, & Tech Support. For the month, overall, they seem to be accurate in total but each day isn't right. For example, last Monday and Tuesday, I have 0.00 GB, Wednesday isn't even on the list (!) and Thursday I'm listing an amount that's all of those days combined, and dumped into one day. <br><br>Whether or not you can still charge overage fees, if your counter isn't accurate to the day, isn't for me to decide and another argument altogether... but the meter isn't individually accurate for each day. ]]></description>

Because it doesn't magically jump the router.  The electronics didn't just decide to transform and wire themselves so as to bypass itself.<br>Am I personally going to sue? At best, it's a Pyrrhic victory after you settle your lawyers fees.<br><br>Realistically, class action would be the only viable option. But you would need a relatively large pool of individuals who all have data supporting the inaccuracy of Cogeco's meter.<br><br>And, you would need to show damages, which as of yet haven't been charged.]]></description>

I told him that there's no bandwidth used since the 16th.  <br><br>He then proceeded to ask me if I was away during that time and didn't use my internet.  I was like... LOL Whut??  He repeated the question again and I was incredulous.  Why the hell would I even call, if I was away during that time??    :mad:<br><br>So he put me on hold and when he came back, said he opened a ticket and... surprise!  They are not aware of this problem.   :uhh:<br><br>I asked for a callback, but I'm also going to start calling every day to make sure this is looked into.  I'm responsible enough to monitor my bandwidth used and the least that Cogeco can do for me is make sure that this type of tool is working properly and reflecting accurate numbers.  ]]></description>

He said he had to put me on hold to check it out but I did not give him the ticket number yet. He said he would come back to me and get that after. <br><br>So he can back from hold and I gave him the ticket number. He said the ticket was still opened but said he saw the same info as was noted in my account (ITC). He then put the credit thing quickly out to me. <br><br>When you call in to the front lines, do they have access to these tickets that are created? I'm thinking not because I have the feeling what actually happened was that he just put me on hold, talked to his neighbor and then they probably said just transfer him to billing for a credit. <br><br>You know a credit is nice (have not explored that route yet) but I would like a definite answer as to why the system is sending out these notifications without a person being even close to the limit because I'm sure this will happen again. <br><br>Cogeco needs to clearly identify and put measures in place to resolve this issue other the Cogeco Community will not trust the service and support. <br><br>So in short, I do not believe what support is saying and I would like a clear answer on this.  ]]></description>

I'm with everyone else though how accurate can it really be?  Data is missing for days then just shows up.  Now if their data seems to stall who's to say their polling system aren't stalling as well?  Depending on how it's calculated the polling stopping could show some pretty crazy usage stats.  Say it was partially based off of your speed at certain intervals.  It stalls with you doing 6mbit and 12 hours later it comes back it says you used 6mbit that entire time therefor you used x GB's.  Depends how its all calculated though it could just have 0's for that time frame.]]></description>

So if I am the upstanding citizen checking my bandwidth every day and I see constant 0000's, then suddenly a week later it shows me at 59.8Gigs with 1 week left in the month, then I would also have a problem with that.  Since obviously I cannot monitor my bandwidth effectively any overage I would kindly tell them to shove.<br>Make no mistake, when money is involved this system better be as pure as the driven snow...<br><br>So here is a couple interesting notes:<br><br>So far its tracking fairly close to my usage this month, according to my router.  Not sure if you can see this picture but it shows BW usage for the last 3 months.  Noting that it tells me that overage charges will be credited for the months of May and April.  May shows 60482MB and April shows 38053M.<br>While May is close to the cap, it is not over, and April is far from it.<br><br>I think what this might do is force users to suck down every byte of their Cap to use their connection to the fullest.  Before you never cared, because you could always just get what you wanted, when you wanted. I called in yesterday morning to report a problem and to get an idea what my bandwidth was at.  The friendly rep told me my account was at 104 gigs (I am on Soho Standard).  When the bandwidth monitor came back up  That is what the total was for up to the 15th.  I just got up and checked it now and guess what There is a difference of 10 gigs in what he told me as of 10 am yesterday ad a difference of 16 gigs total.  Not only does the meter only update once a day, now when we do call in we can't get a accurate count of what the bandwidth totals are just read of of what the bandwidth tool says. ]]></description>

<title>Bandwidth monitoring - whats up?</title>

<description><![CDATA[<A HREF="/useremail/u/0"><b>anon</b></A> : I have just checked my bandwidth usage and was surprised to see a validation notification. As you can see I'm only at 26.35% and the notification says I'm at 85%???? And also I have recieved no notifications from the system and yes I have checked my spam and junk email filters.
