Sukunai posted : What can I say, this is the 21st century, and none of us has had any need for video rental locations for quite some time.

And we barely need the services of television companies as well.

I download ALL my tv shows if they interest me at all.
I'd wouldn't mind logging on to an internet located service, and pay a monthly fee or a modest fee per show to get them.
I consider my cable service a complete waste of money. If it wasn't for the fact it is to please my wife, this house wouldn't have any TV service at all.
If it's news I can get it online. If the show is actually any good, I can get it online.
And if advertisers want to advertise, let them do it online where my eyes will actually be watching.

I don't rent videos, if they are worth watching at all, an avi download is just fine. DVD is only good for buying a better grade copy. I have no desire to pay X dollars to rent one.
I wouldn't mind paying a modest fee to get videos legit, but until the industry wakes up and smells the roses that won't be happening.

In the 20th century you could make statements to the effect they thought a video was worth X dollars and you would damn well pay it because they refused to accept it could be any different.

Today I can tell them a video is free if I bloody well say it is, and there's damn near nothing they can do to stop that being the case. Quotes and comments regarding the law, mean utterly nothing in the face of the reality we live in.
But I will gladly offer them a buck a digital download if they want it. Anything more than a buck a movie though, well they can either talk to the hand, or settle for the sound of my laughing.

Hearing Bell and as well Rogers video rental stores are dying is no shock. They kinds of places have been on life support for several years.
It almost makes me sad to visit a local mom and pop video rental location here in town. The guy is a nice guy. But his store barely has any reason to exist, and there's never any customers there when I walk in.

And that is no surprise.
