| [Speed] Anyone in NE Atlanta burbs seeing slow speeds?
Last few days speed has been much slower than normal. Speedtest shows: Download Speed: 5115 kbps (639.4 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 2968 kbps (371 KB/sec transfer rate)
Signal is normal: Downstream Freq/Power: 693.000 MHz 2 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio: 36 dB Modulation: QAM256 Upstream Freq/Power: 24.400 MHz 44 dBmV Channel Type: DOCSIS 1.x (TDMA) Symbol Rate: 2560 kSym/sec Modulation: QAM16
The upload is normal (I am still docsis 1.x as you can see above), but the download is usually around 30mb down with powerboost. Now not only do I not have powerboost, I am on the 8Meg tier and can't even get close to it.
Just curious if I am the only one. |

| Looks like you've got the Ulra tier (??) 22/5 on DOC 3.
That's what I'm waiting for out here. As for as the OP ques, no probs here.
This is what I see on my Performance Tier a/o now. UL's are querky like this for some reason, no complaints though. Using owned Motorola sb5101.

| No. I have the Blast 16/2 tier. The speeds above are from Powerboost. But I just found out that my area was just upgraded to D3, and I'll be getting the D3 modem Saturday. The speed results that I posted are high because of Powerboost. You at least have DOCSIS 2.0 upstream that allows PB to go up to 12 megs max. And you may have D3. One tell-tale sign I noticed is that the download frequency went from 687 to 693. You may want to call CSR to see if your plant was upgraded to D3.
But some areas of Atlanta have had upstream upgraded to D2 for sometime before D3 upgrade was implemented. That's true in my father's area near Northlake, where he had D2 upstream for at least a year, whereas my plant never got D2 until recently. His area was also recently upgraded to D3. |

| reply to alfnoid I don't understand why I bought comcast cable. I ordered the 16Mbps (2Mbps) download package and I am testing at 27Mbps (3.3Mbps) download.
But every website I download from won't let me download over 5Mbps (625kbps), most of them will only allow me to download at 2Mbps (250kbps).
What is the point of paying for High Speed Internet when the websites can't even keep up? |

| reply to alfnoid Comcast had a problem this week up in Canton. Some type of outage had us down below 1mbps for a couple of days. Supposedly the problem had been going on for a few weeks-- they thought they fixed it, but it came back and they had to do something else. I don't know specifics. I just know I had horrible Vonage connections for a few weeks, then everything went back to really slow downloads over the weekend.
Speed is back now, but now I woke up and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to one of the faster Blast or Ultra. I've got a home office and VOIP, and normally we have two computers on different VPN's at the same time. Are Blast and Ultra that much better in the Atlanta area? Are they worth the upgrade? |

| reply to cracker 52 Still see 687 in signal reference in modem, so I would "assume" no DOC 3 here yet.
According to this »www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ/Fa···?Id=4859 , based on my daily tests I see pretty much steady 15M DL. So I guess somethings goin on cause UL's are way past 3M for now.
If your seeing those kind of rates for your Blast now, what would be the need for the DOC 3 modem your getting (other than a tier upgrade). Seems those rates are insane .
Peace! |

join:2007-01-23 Atlanta, GA 1 edit | Yes. I'm going to try the 50 tier for awhile to see how it works out and whether it's worth $97 monthly charge. If not, I'll at least get the 22 tier as I do want the 5 megs sustained upload. |

| same here in Canton-- horrible for about four days early this week, then got a lot better. Then I had another outage yesterday.
This is rare-- I rarely think about Comcast anymore because my connection has been so good for the past two years. Obviously they are having some problems over the past week/two weeks.
I still haven't upgraded, and I'm thinking about going ahead and upgrading to Blast or Ultra. |

| reply to alfnoid Anybody still having problems in north Atlanta? NW, up in Canton, I'm still having a lot of outages. I did upgrade to Blast, so I get occasional great speeds followed by more dropped connections and slow speeds. I've tested anywhere from 28 megabits to 0.87 megabits in the past 48 hours. |

| reply to alfnoid Here we go again except this time my powerboost on the upload goes past 3000
Downstream Freq/Power: 681.000 MHz 1 dBmV Signal to Noise Ratio: 37 dB Modulation: QAM256 Upstream Freq/Power: 31.000 MHz 45 dBmV Channel Type: DOCSIS 1.x (TDMA) Symbol Rate: 2560 kSym/sec Modulation: QAM16
Last Result: Download Speed: 4876 kbps (609.5 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 5257 kbps (657.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
strange stuff
same as last time normal websurfing is jerky as pages don't fully load for some time. Wish they would finish their upgrades/maint. already! |
