 | Hey. I'm actually the guy that posted about my modem not being able to do over 5Mb. Like I said in my previous post, I don't know why that was the case and/or why a new modem fixed the problem, but it did.
I don't think the type of modem you get will be much of an issue. Most of the time, a modem is a modem. The modem I had that wouldn't do over 5Mb was a Motorola 4101, which was at least five years old. But even so, the 4101 should have been able to handle up to 100Mb.
Regardless though, they gave me a 5120 to replace it and my speeds have been great ever since. I wouldn't worry about it too much though. If I had to choose, I would probably pick a Motorola over the no-name brand of modem that some cable companies hand out, but I know plenty of people with those no-name modems and they're speeds are fine.
Like I said previously, my only guess is that my old 4101 had outdated firmware or something. Who knows. |
 | reply to Wildbill1978 The 4101 operates at 10baseT-HD on the ethernet port which will hurt you at speeds above 5Mb/s. The Motorola Surfboard 4101 is a very old modem and will limit speeds due to the old technology inside the modem. It would have nothing to do with JetBroadband or it's service.
If you are new subscriber, you should and will get a modem capable of more than 10baseT-HD on the ethernet port.
I hope you have a super experience with JetBroadband. You didn't mention which area you are in, but you should get close, if not over, your subscribed speed. |
