Advanced Search times out

Click for full size
I can't seem to do an advanced search with the dates for searching specified Jan 2003-April 2005 in the Road Runner forum only. The topic is "Toshiba modem statistics". I get a timed out response every time. That puzzles me because I have narrowed the search to slightly over a two year period in ONLY ONE forum. Am I doing something wrong? I guess I should use Google instead?

Re: Advanced Search times out

I just conducted an advanced search in a 1.5 year time from 07-08 for "modem" and the search worked fine.

Ten to one odds say your security setup is causing the timeout.

My setup isn't causing the timeout.

Same here.

A search in that time period for the exact phrase "Toshiba modem statistics" in the Roadrunner forum gets 0 results. Just searching for those words, however, in that time frame in that forum times out.

Re: Advanced Search times out

That's interesting that it happens to you also. I recall numerous threads around 2004 to maybe April-May 2005 in the RR forum about Toshiba modems not having a web page to easily access for modem statistics. It is not timing out because there are no threads on this subject in that time period. It was a controversial subject.

It must be that particular phrasing that the search engine objects to. I used this phrase (find results with all of these words) toshiba pcx2600 statistics . I got one thread and it was one of the threads I was trying to find. There was more discussion besides that one thread but maybe not so narrow as about just one Toshiba modem but all of them and my search was narrow and that is why only one thread was found. So, there must be something odd about the original search wording...although what I can't imagine. At any rate, I found one of the threads I was looking for with this more specific search and I know the search engine works just fine ...usually ....on advanced searches.

Re: Advanced Search times out

Here are the results in that forum for "toshiba" and "statistics: in 2003-2005. This search did not time out.

Re: Advanced Search times out

Thank you. Your search produced a few more threads. There are more though I think and in relation to the Surfboard modem compared to Toshiba so I probably need to add "Surfboard" to the search terms. Your results are further confirmation that the search here works fine except for the anomaly of the first one. That will remain a mystery.
