 | IE8 Security Update Fixes Restricted Site Problem The IE8 accumulative security update issued on 09-Jun-2009 appears to have fixed the IE8 LCIE problem with 1000s of restricted sites...as provided by SpywareBlaster. IE8 responds normally now on my Vista SP2 x64 and on XP-SP3 x86 systems with all the Restricted Sites activated by SpywareBlaster.
I assume it fixes the same issue for users of SpyBot S&D; however, I cannot confirm that because I do not use SpyBot. |

2 edits | I have not had this issue using SpywareBlaster, though SpyBot may be responsible for this, depending on what settings you have set. See this MS KB, it may help (your option) > »support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
As some would say on the Microsoft news server Question answered elsewhere, but we're not like that |

I will have to test this out on XP32 and XP64 systems with IE8 on the weekend. I previously removed ALL sites from the restricted zone to speed loading times up and simply placed them in my hosts file. |

In reply # 5 Javacool gives the link to the IEBlog in which EricLaw (Microsoft) says:

It may just be a coincidence but I have never experienced one of those fake "You computer is infected" popups, while using the IE-Spyad restricted zone list.
Can't say the same without it. I didn't use it with IE-8 because of the slow browser issues.
Plus I seldom ever get one of those obnoxious pop-unders.
The often misunderstood IE Restricted Zone can be a very valuable tool against internet crap...
Sites in the IE Restricted Zone will "shut down ActiveX, Java, and scripting, all of which can be employed to push obnoxious advertising on you and compromise your privacy and security". »www.spywarewarrior.com/uiuc/resource.htm
Unlike a HOSTS file block-list, addresses in the Restricted Zone do not prevent one from visiting them....it just basically neuters them.
IE's Restricted List can be a very powerful tool. |
