Will there ever be another good deal?

About 3 or 4 years ago I was able to get 2 T1 lines from AT&T and they gave me somewhere in the area of %65 discount. This was because they were doing a flat rate pricing in certain areas (old southwest bell territory). Will I ever see this again? Or am I doomed for crazy prices to upgrade because of my location?

65% off what?

Their standard rack rates are quick high

Cheers

how about you reformat your question like this: "please quote a 2xT1 at {street address with city state and ZIP}, with land line phone number starting with XXX-XXX, with or without carrier provided router, in a commercial or residential address, requiring a minimum of X IP addresses, with 1/2/3 year term. My current provider is Y and my current monthly cost is Z." This will bypass the philosophical discussion and get you actionable information!

that address does not resolve in USPS system. must you get mail from PO Box, or is it a typo? also, please advise current provider and current cost for what speed, and if you need the new carrier to provide the router.

Will there ever be a good deal? As someone who makes a living selling this stuff I get light headed when I pop in here and see what is being offered!

It is hard to make a living selling this stuff when you see what some people are selling this stuff at - if that makes sense

HOWEVER

It's not all about price is it??

No price isn't everything- but fully loaded DS3s for $2k and $350 T1s dont make life any easier. Especially when we are in an economic downturn.

I do not know what to tell you. That is my address and yes I get mail at a PO Box. I currently have AT&T 3 meg pipe router supplied at around $1000 a month. This price includes my 65% discount. I really do not see why you need to know my current price unless your not going to quote me the best you can to start with.

"Now you're talkin, Mr. Wayne!" -- Lucious Fox, The Dark Knight

Don't ya just hate it when the kids keep asking "why?"

AT&T has some interesting pricing for you through the agent channel, but they don't let us solicit existing AT&T accounts.

Knowing your current price helps everyone not waste your time. You're not in a major metro area where everyone would be beating each other up for $650 or $635 for a 3M. Now you won't get two dozen quotes all higher than you can use. Everyone reads every thread -- if they can jump in they can ... revealing your current cost doesn't hurt you at all. We all still want to beat the other guys!

Street address needs to be confirmed because some carriers require exact street address for their quoting system to function at all.

I'll let you know if I can get below $1000 or not.

Can definitely lower that pricing however as Rocky said you would need to switch carriers - well he didn't say that exactly but I know what he meant. Qwest are sub $800 for a 3M and sub $1200 for a 4.5M but that is without the router.
Pricing is based on the address and NPA NXX you gave - please note that Qwest don't like installing to a residence - it can get through but sometimes they kick it back

Have you considered circuits from PAETEC, Would you like a true valued Quote for your 4.5 to 6MB bonded circuits. Also do you need a router or will you be using the one AT&T gave you. Please advise.

Well I have a Mikrotik router (PC with Mikrotik installed Gary Evans takes care of all the fancy stuff). It is hooked directly to AT&T router (it's not mine. it's a loaner while I have service with them) so we can route internally. Who is PAETEC? I am mainly concerned about latency and uptime with the carrier.

kudos:1

Truthfully if you want the best uptime you get what you pay for. Whoever owns the local system is the best to go with. I've had nightmares with Covad, GBLX, Paetec, XO, Qwest, etc when AT&T is the RBOC. It just adds another level of complexity to the repair process when something breaks.

Two recent events that come to mind were bonded XO T1's and a frame relay to GBLX. The XO issue was a line problem that took forever to get AT&T to look at and with GBLX the smart jack went bad at the A location and it took a good 48 hours during the business week for GBLX to get AT&T on site to replace it. The second they replaced it, the circuit came right up. Dealing with reseller may be cheaper but if you value uptime it may not be cheaper if you need repairs.

Its just a nice hopeless feeling when you know that it is an AT&T issue but you cannot call and complain as you are not their customer.

My 2 cents,
Scooby

I won't be able to get near your 3M for $1000 current price point. After CenturyTel and Embarq complete their merger, we might be able to do something, but at this time the backhaul is just murder. not that you should care, but it's doubtful that AT&T is making any money on you, so if you can renew you should do so for at least a year.

do you foresee a change in Centurytel after the merger (with the pricing?)

of course there will be a change. it's not possible to know right now which side will dominate for the business services.
