With just one window open(my documents) explorer is using 40-50% cpu usage. I never noticed this before. Windows 7 build 7000. |

| reply to grreyeyezz Do you keep up to date on all Windows updates?
I had a problem awhile ago with IE7 slowing to a crawl replicating itself with multiple instances that remained even after I closed all IE windows. I had to manually kill them off from the task manager to restore speed.
Not sure what caused that, but later updates to IE7 or java or something seems to have resolved that.
I currently have IE 7.0.5730.11 in XP Home. Updates tried to install IE 8, but I cancelled that because it did not work in a Vista PC at work (could not print and Help, About was blank) and I think it is more difficult/impossible to uninstall from XP with service packs. |

| It's not IE its just a folder open and WMP. shlwapi.dll is the culprit. I'll keep googling. |

| reply to grreyeyezz Had the same problem when I installed Win7 RC. This is how I solved it:
I used "ProcessMonitor" to find out what the heck explorer.exe was doing. »technet.microsoft.com/de-de/sysi···645.aspx
It turned out, that explorer.exe made millions of reads on a TrueCrypt encrypted file named "private.dat", that I placed on my desktop! I starded a shell with cmd.exe, shot down explorer.exe with the task manager and renamed the file to "private.cr". When I restarted explorer.exe it was at 0% CPU ! |
