GPS for the wife

My wife will be graduating with her RN soon. She also just got hired on at a local hospital doing hospice. Part of the job is going home to home in rather rural areas. She sometimes has issues with directions and well I better shut up just in-case she sees this.

Anyway the features I think she needs are
map updates
easily viewable screen
and spoken turn by turn

Anything other than that would be overkill, I think. I am not wanting to spend a fortune. I saw someone post a link to amazon for a TomTom I think for $170 or so.
Thoughts suggestions?

Re: GPS for the wife

Problem with rural areas, is most GPS's like the Magellan Maestro will take you out of your way. Check with Consumer Reports on the best GPS systems out there. Also check with the local Bicycle club to see if anyone in their club uses one to ride with.

Magellan still shows I-355 up in Chi town as a field, even though 2 years ago the interchange was modified, during the time that the GPS software was still in pre-release. That is the biggest offender when it comes to stuff like this.

The even better solution, would be for her to have a PDA or iPhone with GPS, other then some other gadget in the car.

I threw out the map a long time ago. Now I follow my own direction!

I bought one of these for the Ms. She likes it, speaks street names, turn by turn, 4.7" screen. Its easy to use. Came with one free update.

the tom tom model you would be looking for would be the TomTom XL 330 imo. its at the $180 price point. you can find it for 10 - 15 dollars cheaper at times.
