Namely the inroute group, and the firewall that is now enabled at the Noc.. |

| reply to teledatatech An update: I got another call today(while at work) and was told that they reverted back to the older firmware and everything looked good on my end and of course they don't guarantee speed. Case ID closed. Anyway, it doesn't matter much now ,as it looks like I'm going to get DSL (Dry Pair DSL) service soon at 29.95/mo for 1.5 meg service. Since my billing period is up tomorrow, I just went ahead and canceled my account. They did offer service at a reduced rate of $35 a month, but I declined. So its' so long Hughesnet. | reply to teledatatech I got another call back today. Hughes is still leaving the case open. Again they are wanting more speed tests done, and they will call again on Friday. I told them about the change back to the older firmware, seemed to help some. I think the firmware update had something to do with the poor performance, but I do believe some is just plain overloaded gateways, that Hughes won't do anything about. -- Hughesnet G-17/1070 With Backup Sprint Service |

Recently found out Charter HSI is now available in my area so I'll be switching to their 10Mbps service in a couple weeks...
Until these uplink issues hit; Hughes had served me well for 3 years. If I did a review I'd probably give them 3.8/5 |

| reply to Xtreme2damax said by Xtreme2damax :This fallback hasn't done me no good.. It's likely incomplete. Updates relate to the gateway modems too. It's not outside the realm of reason that your NOC will wait till a majority of customers assigned to your gateway are rolled back, until they do the same at their end.

1 edit | reply to teledatatech This fallback hasn't done me no good..
Normal download speeds are fine, but browsing suffers substantially. Dns time outs, dns errors, incomplete page loading, painstakingly slow browsing are all issues I started to encounter after the firmware update.
Since it it is confirmed for me at least that the firmware upgrade is not the source of the problems, since I still am experiencing the same problems with the fallback to the last firmware version.
It's seems with the firmware upgrade other things were changed as well, either on purpose or mistakenly that were and are still causing problems for some/most of us.
The problem likely lies elsewhere, as someone mentioned perhaps it's the inroute group or it could be the fact that the firewall is enabled at the noc now, where it wasn't enabled in the past. -- »www.xtemu.com/forum/index.html »www.xtemu.com/forum/portal.html

| reply to teledatatech Now that they have rolled back the firmware, I believe that they need to do some further work insofar as changing the "Inroute Group". .. It was before the firmware update (the new one) that the new inroute groups changed for me..just two days before the release of the new firmware. .. I see I still have two Inroute Groups..one being 31, which yields very few transmit failures, to 41, which I have a lot of problems with. 31 averages 0.01% or less failure, whereas 41 is sometimes up to over 3%. In the five minute windows, when on 41, failure rate is sometimes as high as 9%. .. It's almost as though, prior to release of this latest firmware, they had to "plow the field" so to speak, for new inroutes to accomodate the new firmware. .. Now that they have rolled back the firmware, I sure hope they roll back the inroute group change they did. ... Prior to all this starting, my Inroute Group was always 11, with VERY few transmit failures. -- G25(93W)/1247H-H/SOHO/.98 2Wt/Gateway 66.82.159.144 |

| reply to teledatatech I called support today and used my PIN # to get to advanced support. The tech said they have monitored my modem for the last few days and found nothing wrong with the modem or antenna, but there seems to be a problem at their end. They admit the speed tests I have performed are unsatisfactory. (Still waiting for some sort of credit) They said engineers are still looking into it. My speed tests again today have been all below 300 kbps down. I advised them that my issues seemed to have corresponded to a new firmware download on June 3rd. I was told that there have been other reports of similar issues that may be related to the firmware update. They advised me that my case has not been closed and will be doing another callback and issue another PIN. There is also the possibility that they will revert my modem back to the prior firmware of 5.6.1.35. They told me that they have reverted some back to the last firmware, and performance has improved. I'll wait and see if they change me back to the older firmware. -- Hughesnet G-17/1070 With Backup Sprint Service |

| reply to teledatatech Well, was online last night when the modem reset. And, here's what it says in the reset log .. back to Version 5.6.1.35!! Hope this restores things back to normal for many who have been suffering through the new release. .. It may take a while to take care of everyone, but there has to be a reason to "pull" the new software. ____________________________________________________

| reply to teledatatech I received another call today(while at work, again). The tech wanted me to try some additional tests here on my PC. Not sure what else they want me to check, as I have went thru all their tests before. They did give me a number to call along with a PIN for direct access to a tech. I will say , that since midnight I have not seen any red X's at all. I also noticed that the modem was reset last night. Nothing in the setup has changed though. I will monitor the connection closely tonight ,and if I see the same X's in the diagnostic screen, i will give them a call. I think the PIN is only usable for 24 hours. Hughes speed tests done so far today look good. Some downloads were over 700 kbps, so maybe they are "working on it" . Anyone else on G-17/1070 notice improving speeds? -- Hughesnet G-17/1070 With Backup Sprint Service |

| reply to teledatatech I am really getting sick of this crap, no use in calling worthless Indian support that is nothing more than a joke.
I'm no sure if there is a problem, or if this was an intentional move on part of Hughesnet. All I know is that these problems magically appeared after the firmware update.
If there is a problem it doesn't seem like they are acknowledging it, and are taking their sweet time to fix it. -- »www.xtemu.com/forum/index.html »www.xtemu.com/forum/portal.html

1 edit | reply to teledatatech Support did call , but I was at work. They were supposed to call after 4PM ,but called at about 8:30 this morning. Anyway, I was told to do three more days of speed tests, even though have been doing tests for over a week now. After 3 days they are supposed to review them further and call me back. BTW. My speed tests that I've done today since I got home show an average of 265.4 Down 46.1 Up |

1 edit | reply to teledatatech said by teledatatech :I sure hope they know there is a problem . Probably it's just a fluke, but it sure has seem to have went downhill after the new firmware. I used to have all green checks in the hourly diagnostic screen, but right now I have a lot in the Download. This must be the trigger Tx SACKs 153(4.09%) BAD *** -------------------------------------------------------------- Since support seems to be overwhelmed at this point, I would hope they are working on it. In the 6 or so years of Hughes service This is about the worst I've seen. Another issue I seem to have since the update is, a lot of DNS errors and pages not loading completely. Let us know when/if tech support returns your call. I sure miss the "Sea of Green" in Diagnostics, and when clicking on a Green, everything saying "Good", without all the "BAD" and "Marginals" I'm now seeing. .. Ordinarilly I would associate this with overcrowding, but this happened overnight, with the new Inroute Group change(s) and the Firmware Update. -- G25(93W)/1247H-H/SOHO/.98 2Wt/Gateway 66.82.159.144 |
