Re: Netgear WNR834M continually drops internet

You need to do a little diagnostic here.

1. connect the modem directly to your computer. No router. If your computer does not have any internet drop, then you will assume that the problem is with the router. Use it for a while to be sure. This will separate modem from router from computer problem.

2. assuming modem and computer are OK. Connect modem. Be sure PW and security encryption are setup properly. Since you have DSL, my recommendation would be to use the modem for authentification to the network.

If both motorola and speedstream have the same problem then I suspect the problem is with the configuration of the security section of the modems and/or router, i.e. not a physical or mechanical problem.

You need to reproduce the probem consistently and then fix it.

I have a netgear WNR834m Router with a Motorola 2210 Modem and the internet has been consistently dropping on me. I used to have a Speedstream 5100 and I would have this same problem. It goes out maybe once or twice per day, which is when I have to unplug and replug the Modem and Router. This doesn't solve the problem but it resets the problem for awhile. I have been reading through the forums and I think that I have to put one of these into slave mode because both are "smart" or something, or do some kind of bridge mode on one of them. But I'm not sure how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
