| [Speed Problem] DSL 2+ Connection Issues Getting VERY SLOW DSL and dropped line conditions, even with new modem. I've been a DSL and Home Phone service customer for over 2 years. In fact, I was one of the first to get the DSL and Home phone service in Pasadena where I live because I was an ELNK employee at the time. My service has been great for over 2 years (getting consistent 8MB+ download) until about 2 weeks ago.
Modem kept losing sync. Phone seemed to work fine. After a few calls to Tech Support and Tron, they diagnosed my problem to be the model. they sent me a Zyxel P660R-D1 modem. took numerous calls to tech support and tron to get it working. I lose connection about 1-2 times per day. DSL sync light goes out occassionally. When I am connected, it sometimes slows down to a crawl (dial-up speed). Resetting the modem seems to work, but I'm getting tired of doing that 3-4 times during the day. Covad coming out tomorrow to check things out.
Anyone know of anything going on in Pasadena that could be causing this?

| Hey priore,
I live in Arcadia (right next to Pasadena), and have been having some trouble lately as well. I've had EL DSL for around 2 years now as well, it was shaky to begin with, but once I had it all set up, it was fine for 2 yrs. But about 2 weeks ago, my internet slowed to a crawl. After a call to tech support, the internet bacame usable, but I'm still not receiving the full 1.5 Mbps that I pay for. I seem to be getting 768 Kbps.
I just called tech support like 15 mins ago, and they said they'd send me a new modem. I'll let you know how that goes when I get it in ~1 week. Right now, my modem syncs fine, but its not getting full speed. | |

A new DSL Modem will not change the Port Rate settings/Sync Rate settings at the DSLAM. If your current DSL Modem only syncs at 768 Kbps, your new DSL Modem will also sync at 768 Kbps. DSL Modems do not control the DSL Sync Rate/Port Rate as that is set and controlled remotely by the DSLAM. Changing Modems will not change that.
