Re: Answer is Taxation said by No To ESPN :
Sports should be taxed as they are a vice. I suggest that a modest 50% tax be placed on this service. Sounds like a reasonable way of dealing with these clowns and generating some needed cash for what REALLY IS IMPORTANT. Such as?

TBH, sports are close to the bottom of important things. As a matter of fact I put sports about on the same level as I do video games. They are fun diversions but hardly important in the grand scheme of things. |

Sports do a lot to encourage people to pursue healthier lifestyles, if only to emulate their idols. Having "heroes" as people you look up to plays a huge role in younger people's psyches (and I don't just mean kids). In the past it used to be war heroes, and now in more peaceful times it tends to be sports heroes.
Sports and exercise in general are essential to people's well-being. Just because *you* consider it a diversion doesn't mean it actually is for everyone else. |

 | "More peaceful times"? "Heroes"?
Guess I must be an idiot, too. Maybe I'll have something else to say later... once I stop laughing (if ever). |

 | Don't be a jaded pompous fool. You don't seem to understand how little of an impact the "wars" that the US are involved in have affected people back home or even in other countries, especially when compared to conflicts like WW2, Vietnam or the Cold War.
Your intense cynicism doesn't devalue the sincerity of more youthful people. |

1 edit | "jaded pompous fool"? (You're lookin' in a mirror, right?)
Way to take a world view, guy. And, by the way, I'm totally sincere--guess that means I'm "youthful", too. But, really, calling someone "heroic" because they play sports--perhaps even being good at it--is almost as "sincere" as calling someone an "idiot" for not sharing your personal view.
Feel free to continue on with any diatribe on your own. |

Best of luck to you, arguing with folks like you is only maddening, not enlightening.
Edit: On second thought you are a nub to this site. I'll just ignore you. |

I know plenty of people who think because they watch sports they are living a healthier lifestyle, but these same people sit on a couch, eat nachos, drink beer for hours on end while watching that very sport.
Sports are a diversion, more entertainment then a health value. The amount of money that is put into sports, could be put into child programs that would do more to teach a healthier lifestyle then just watching sports.
As for heroes, instead of dedicating time to sporting events, how about more time to the lives of service men and women? More stories about brave police and firefighters?
Because if you are saying someone who plays sports is more of a hero then any of them, this is one sad country... |
