I think this may be misunderstood

ESPN 360 content is free, if you use one of the specified ISP's. ISP's are paying the fee so they can get people to switch from the smaller ISP's that don't offer it.

It's similar to the NFL Network's deal with Direct TV. I can only get it if I use Direct TV, not cable. Direct TV pays the NFL for this exclusivity.

It's not free. The ISP pays, and then you pay the ISP for access. The difference is it's SUBSIDIZED by all users of the ISP.

This is the cable TV model being brought to web content. It blows.

Ok first of NFL Network doesn't have an exculsive deal with DirecTV. Sunday Ticket does. Please learn some facts before posting. Secondly if you want Sunday Ticket you have to pay an extra fee to DirecTv for access. So how that is similar to ESPN360 is beyond me. Also ESPN360 is not free since you know the ISP is gong to pass their cost onto the customer. Even those that don't want it. I'm not sure why ESPN doens't do a subscritpion model. That way ALL people have access to to not just certian ISPs. ESPN360 is something I'd might get durring college football season but since my ISP doesn't have a deal with ESPN I won't get it. You'd think they'd make moree money charging $10 a month than doing thing this way.

They can get $10 from 10,000 people or $1 from 10,000,000. And they can get it without subscription costs like maintaining customer databases, billing, call centers, etc.. And, they get it each and every month - no cancellations when college football season is over.

You honestly think that ratio would be 1000 to 1? Besides from what I read ESPN get's 10 cents. So in your example 10 cents from 10,000,000 is $1,000,000 if 1% of those 10,000,000 would have paid $10 a month that's $1,000,000. MLB.tv gets 2 million people to pay over $110 for 6 months of basbeball.

I don't have a clue what the ratio, charges, or costs are, but ESPN seems to like them, and probably for good reason.
