I don't live in Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor but rather a township in between. The post office that handles my mail is in Ypsi and that is what matches the zip code. MapQuest has no problem with Superior Township so I think they check the zip if the city doesn't match, but Google does.

It works in Google if you just put in the street address and zip; if you leave out the name of the city it works fine. It doesn't quite get it right, but at least it points to the correct street. I think all these mapping services key off the same TIGER database so if TIGER is wrong, so are the maps. Same with the USGS Terraserver.

You can see in the photo where the automated maps put the pin (in red) and where I really live (blue arrow). I think the more rural it gets, the less precise it is. A similar image of my house in suburban Chicago was almost dead on with the end of my driveway. For most maidenhead squares, a few hundred feet or error won't make much difference.
