Re: [Info] DGL-4500 New firmware 1.21 beta

So this is the beta, I think D-link has enough feedback, all they have to do is look at this forum, but is a full release coming soon? I hope there's atleast a fix for the lock ups which appear to different based on your hardware version because mine locks up after about 12 days.

Don't really like how long it takes D-link to beta test there software and get feedback, there must be a better solution. Example, use the router itself to give feedback, Like all new D-link routers will have a feedback section, you fill in some information and send it from your routers web browser or something. I've seen the beta forums forums, and I get the distinct impression that the techs just don't believe a word anyone says, or that they believe there product is so good, that users have no idea what there talking about.

Apart from the horrible wireless, I just wanna see the 12 day lockups gone.

I agree with that. Its very pointless in many ways to go over there.

Give you a cigar for that statement.

I think you guys miss the point. This isn't a beta release...this is a release to fix the RELEASED 1.2 that caused this problem to begin with. They know the problem exists, they've known since day one when it first got posted on the D-link site and people started screaming.

I've told you how to get your router replaced immediately and not have to wait for them to "figure it out".

It's simple...file the darned BBB complaint at www.bbb.org. You will get an almost immediate answer and they will arrange to replace your router with an a2 at rev 1.12. It's not hard, costs nothing and gets the job done plus it documents this with an outside organization that watchdogs most USA companies.

People if you are having trouble with your a1 please file a complaint. Its free and costs you nothing plus will result in d-link sending you a free a2 replacement unit. D-link took care of me via their people in the d-link forum however for the rest of you don't keep letting them step on you. You have the power to help yourselves so file a complaint and get a working router.

Thats typical D-link right there, really high errors, Im not that high, but Im definately seeing around 5k errors per day. I tested my xbox 360 through the wireless the other day, signal strength appears to be pretty random, and caused me to lose host because of the lack of signal strength.

I don't see any firmware allowing good wireless connectivity on this router, its absolutely horrible, a complete joke.

How can I tell which unit I have? Also, I'm still running firmware 1.15 (wish I hadn't upgraded from 1.02) and everything seems okay, although once in a while my wireless degrades terribly and I am forced to reboot the router to fix the issue.

Should I upgrade or stay with 1.15?

And assuming DLINK doesn't get their shit together, what are some other wireless draft "n" routers that support tomato/ddwrt?

i host on live i really dont have any problems to speak of.

Mine has been up for 4 days and i only have 147 errors total. Thats alot of xbox live and hosting im doing.

I should point out the xbox is connected to a dap1522. now the intresting is this error rate is 10315. Both AP and router started up within a minute of each other. IM running only 5ghz also.

Firmware is 1.02 on the router and 1.10 on the dap1522. if i run 1.20 on the dap 1522 my wireless gets ready slow after the 5 days online i must reboot it then. I dont have to reboot it with 1.10 firmware on it.

just my .02 in this

Ok there's a white label on the router body that has the sn and the hardware version on it. You can look at it and see which one you have. Chances are you have an a1 which is the problem router. When I received my new a2 it had 1.12 on it but yesterday I flashed to 1.16b3 which was the best post 1.02 fw I have used. Under no circumstance do you want to flash to any 1.2x firmware until d-link gets their ducks in a row. If fw 1.15 is working for you then I'd leave well enough alone.

The D-Link owners self help website is coming along nicely. Expect an announcement with the URL soon! This site will offer resources to help you immediately get your router replaced and/or a refund. They will also assist you in writing your FTC and Dept of consumer affairs complaints.

Yeah the d-link site has become a breeding ground for personal attacks on anyone who has a problem with their d-link product.

Sorry it's taking so long but with work and a site already of my own time is short...but we're getting there. I'm tossed on adding a forums section..we shall see. The site is intended to coach people on how to best get D-link's attention and of course to possible pursue other avenues at stopping D-link's current trend of customer dissatisfaction.

If we just stop buying and maybe showing these grievances to the retailers... maybe that would get their attention to stop their current trend of customer dissatisfaction.

If you are an owner of a D-link product with hardware/firmware problems that are still unresolved despite all your efforts to have them resolve them or if you have recently upgraded your firmware only to have your router become useless or not perform as advertised. Immediately follow the instructions below and wait for more details on a website that is being developed now to assist you with these problems.

In the meantime...you need to do the following immediately.

1). File a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at www.bbb.org (this will get an immediate response from Dlink and replacement of your router - at least for now)

2). File a complaint with the California Department of Consumer Affairs at »www.dca.ca.gov/online_services/c···nt.shtml

3). File a complaint with YOUR state's consumer affairs.

4.) File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at »https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FT···?Lang=en

5.) File a complaint with Rippoffreport.com at »www.ripoffreport.com/login.asp

You may use the complaint text for each one (that way it saves you loads of time). Also save your paperwork and all emails, conversations, phone records...everything! Do NOT dispose of, sell, trade or otherwise let the hardware go as this may become valuable evidence for authorities. If you need help filling out the paperwork you can ask at the sites listed below and someone will help you.

Your warranty status does NOT matter. Facts are if the firmware update that D-Link provided caused the damage they are liable to fix and/or repair the damage in a reasonable period of time. Almost 3 months is not reasonable.

More on the self help website will be announced shortly. In the meantime you need to immediately file the complaints above and SAVE EVERYTHING including all emails to and from D-Link!

I've said this before, but I actually like d-link routers, mostly I like the web browser functionality, and Im not as impressed with other routers. My issues with D-link routers especially the DGL series is obviously the rebooting thing after however many days because of a firmware update/compatibility, General wireless performance of N wireless causes de-authentication problems/disconnects. The amount of wireless errors appears to be abnormally high, and general wireless performance is very poor in default mode.
It shouldn't take a user like me a year or so to find out what the best wireless settings are, and to figure out that wireless N should be turned off not to experience disconnections on a daily basis.

In a word, the wireless performance on the 4500 sucks, I find the rest of the router to perform well on wired, but wow the wireless is terrible.

Depending on the firmware it runs pretty stable. Range isn't terrific but if you either are close by or have a better set of antennas it does just fine. Now I didn't buy it for N anyway so those issues don't trip me up. The thing that has kept me from running anything from D-link from this point forward is the quality control and lack of anything close to acceptable technical support.

Yay!! I would hope so. Hows your wireless range though or have you even noticed that the A2 wireless range is less that A1. Also have you had any problems with network devices just vanishing and despite all efforts not coming back until "they" want to? Those were the two biggest problems I had with the A2 when it was running.

I don't use wireless so I cannot comment on the range..sorry. Otherwise the pc's on my hard wired home network stay connected just fine with no drops.

What exactly is/are this/these "problem(s)" that I keep on reading about for A1. I see it mentioned but never stated what and how it is related to the hardware. Maybe I missed it while skimming? One I have seen is the three day lockup, but this seems intrinsic to the firmware.

I am curious because I do not have an issue with mine. However, not all features are in use. I do not use filtering, for example. Most of the features are in use though and I have not experienced anywhere near the complexity of complications I have read so far. So I am very curious.
