| reply to lev I never got 2 before the switch over and still don't on my kitchen TV with and an indoor antenna. I am on the far NWside of the city. The digital pic on the rest of channels is good sometimes but at other times the signal power and reception sucks. I really dont feel like investing in a big $ indoor antenna for the chance that reception will get better. I am not impressed at all with this digital conversion but realize that the people in charge don't give a damn. |

| reply to lev Well, WLS couldn't stay on RF 52, since that part of the spectrum has been auctioned off...
my best guess is that the Mickey Mouse bean counters didn't want to have to shell out for a third antenna for yet another channel move. That, and there's been a trend amongst ABC O & Os of returning to their original channels, post-transition.
WBBM cheaped out, period...
they took over WTTW's old channel 11 antenna and tweaked it for channel 12 and not much else!
The above is purely educated speculation on my part, nothing should be construed as being an attack on any company or organization. -- Hopefully the Ministry Of Truth and Thought Police can sort this whole thing out. »www.otadigitaltv.com Frank Shoemaker would call this noise GO Cubs GO!!! |

| reply to lev I read yesterday in the daily herald that WBBMDT and WLSDT (guess DT is redundant now) were having problems and not able to broadcast at full power so people further out from the city would not get full signal, or even the 80% cliff needed. They said they were working with the FCC to get it working soon. We'll see.
I've been using my QAM tuner for a while but now I am back in the burbs for the summer, I want to hook back up to my antenna for OTA since I think it is better quality. -- The early bird catches the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. CPL:IA;ASEL/AMEL. CFI:ASE/AME; IA |

| reply to VegasMan So I finally had time to do that recscan. I had blocky picture, which was an improvement. Then I went to the meter.
Tuner 1 of my DIRECTV HR10-250 was showing a signal between 88 and 90 for WBBM! Tuner 2 was running between 0 and 50. Both an improvement.
Then I signed on here, and tuner 1's signal went dead. Tuner 2 stayed the same. Tuner 1 still works great on WLS, and all the Sears-based UHF channels.
Are there any actual talented engineers working for WBBM? |

| reply to lev I'm in the near west burbs and gettihg 2.1 fairly well about ninety percent of the time. I do get some pixelation though. I can't get ch 11 very well at all. I'm on an indoor antenna, so that might be my problem. I haven't had time to work on it yet. -- What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about? |

| reply to Bink63 said by Bink63 :Everyone with Post-transition reception issues needs to call the FCC... 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322). For grins today, I called, since the engineers that were supposed to call back from WBBM didn't call.
I spoke to a guy in Pennsylvania who sounded just about smart enough to tie his shoes, and he was bumming that everyone there was getting laid-off because nobody was calling.

| reply to lev I'm in Arlington Heights, 60005.
All Chicago DTV channels come in fine pre- and post-conversion with my rooftop Winegard antenna (I forgot the model number, but I bought it in mid-2007).
I also have an older VHF/UHF antenna in the attic that was left by the previous owners of my home. It's connected to a TV in the bedroom, with about 25 ft of coax from the antenna to the receiver. All DTV except WBBM came in fine pre-conversion; WBBM didn't even register on the converter's signal strength meter.
Post-conversion (and post-rescan), WBBM registers on the meter and comes in, but very choppy. It's almost watchable, but still nowhere near the quality of the other stations.
I'm going to climb into the attic and move the antenna around to see if it makes a difference.
The DTV converter boxes are an Insignia and an Apex. The problem is consistent when I switch the boxes on the TVs-- the attic antenna can't get WBBM clearly. |

| reply to Jan Janowski said by Jan Janowski :Signal strength on new 7-1 and 2-1 both are higher on new channels than they were on older channels here (Skokie) I noticed that too on my T.V in the bedroom on ground level but the T.V down in the basement which had no problems picking up 2.1 can no longer get it after the transition. Its strange that it seems to be a stronger signal according to the strength meter on the aforementioned T.V |

| reply to lev I have lost both channel 2.1 and 7.1. And yes, I did rescan.
This is Geneva, around 38 miles west of the loop. I am using an attic antenna - both a VHF and a separate UHF antenna.
When WBBM was on channel 3, the reception was usually good except during a severe lightning storm. Now there is nothing. I can get set the receiver to manually check the signal strength on channel 12, but it is getting nothing. Channel 7 has a similar problem. Most of the other channels are fine. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 327w modem/router; openSuSE 11.0; firefox 3.0.10 |

Checked on 2 different version receivers... V2 and V4 (I think converters are V4 tuners).... Both agree.
On a DTVPal converter box 2-1 went from high 80's on CH3 -- to low 90's on CH12. 7-1 went from high 80's on CH52 to high 90's on CH7. -- Looking for 1939 Indian Motocycle |
