| Am I too old for this??!!
hi everyone...1st post in the gamers forum...
so, lets see...i'm 45, the last game that you could say i was hooked on was duke nukem...then my son got me into playing modern warfare...
man! that game is addicting!!. but it's also frustrating as hell!! as an example, i just got done playing the crossfire map, i led both teams with 29 kills/ 10 deaths...but then i'll play another map, or even the same map later, and i'll go 10/25...i probably average in the mid to high teens in both categories...
what i want to know is the experiences from the older (not old ) crowd...i tell my son that as you get older your 'twitch' reflexes start to diminish...you know, the ability to drop the red-dot sight right on the enemy.
so lets hear it...can you keep up with the younger kids at these games? how old are you? what's your averages...kilss/deaths?
i'm at level 42 on my 3rd prestige... |

| reply to cjski No, you're not too old, especially if you're having fun. I'm almost 37 and had a blast playing Modern Warfare. Never got into the online stuff playing with others but played through the single player a few times before giving it to my brother and I think he likes it even more than I did. Defend the Abrams Tank had me pulling out my hair. That was the toughest part of the game for me but I loved every second of it.
Ghostbusters might be a game that appeals to some of the older crowd and should be out this coming Tuesday. I'm looking forward to playing that one. -- "...eat Spam from the can, watch late night C-Span, and rock out to old school Duran Duran..." |

Yes make fun of us old folks. Just remember if it wasn't for us 40+ guys spending billions of quarters on Space Invaders, Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and begging our parents to spend $200 on Atari 2600s and ColecoVisions there wouldn't be a videogame industry today. |

| reply to cjski First of all, I'm 43. I grew up with videogames. We were a bit of a geek family and loved to play videogames. We had in:
1972 Magnavox Odyssey 1976 Fairchild 1979 Atari VCS 1986 NES
And as an adult I got in: 1992 Super NES 1996 Nintendo 64 2002 GameCube 2006 Wii
I plan on playing videogames until the brain in my 110 yr. old body can no longer interact my PlayStation 10's neural network. -- A clock unwinds, a flower dies... |

You have to be a dad to join and half of us are younger dads with kids and some of them are Grandpas now with snow on the roof.
As for my K/D's??? Well sometimes I'm at the top of the list with 40/10 and sometimes I am at the bottom with 10/40.
Good days and Bad days really decide for me as my skill level is pretty inconsistent |

| reply to cjski I just turned 37 and I love to game. The problem that I have is that there aren't a lot of games that interest me anymore. I think the last real game I was interested in was WoW and Battlefield 2. I have tried countless other games and really was not impressed. I am not into the cartoony shooters. I am more into the realistic games. I really like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, but I am not quick to react like I once was so I find myself getting owned a lot.
I am waiting for a couple interesting MMOs to be released this year like Champions Online and Jumpgate Evolution. I think I am also going to pick up Prototype and other single player games until something really good comes out. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

| reply to cjski 35 here and games and motorcycle riding are my hobbies. As most here, been playing as a kid on an Atari and have never looked back. I ask myself that same question, but it is a nice outlet after all of the family duties and chores to relax and play a game. I am starting to find that RPG's are really fun. Not all of them, but Fallout 3 and Fable 2 are pretty fun to play. -- How about them Cowboys!

| 37 here as well. I've heard some comments from others about being "too old" for games, but really what is the benchmark? We are the 1st generation to grow up with them, so naturally we will be the 1st to grow old and still enjoy them when you think about it. |

| reply to cjski I'm 35 and I don't just keep up, I bring tears to the pimple-faced teenage masses who call themselves "gamers". I'm usually one of the top 3 on the leaderboard after every match of COD (MW and WAW). Depends on the match, though. COD:WAW has some large maps where you have to hunt for campers cringing in dark corners (Outskirts and Seelow come to mind) so I usually fare a little worse on those maps. Those are the games where you time runs out before the score limit is reached.
I've owned just about every console since the Atari 2600. I've had Xbox Live since launch. Your reflexes and tactics will develop over time so I wouldn't worry about that. I don't think age has much to do with it. COD games aren't the most realistic or consistent shooters. Sometimes a lone bullet will drop your opponent and other times mulitple shots with an automatic weapon won't do the job.
Some of us have jobs, kids and other obligations so we can't spend all of our time online, but you're never too old to play video games. Hell, it's a lot cheaper than some of the other things I could be doing with my free time (though maybe a little less fun).
PS - I never prestige. I find it to be neither a reward nor a challenge to do what I've already done. I'm happy to be the guy sitting there with the four stars putting bullet holes in your corpse. |

No they put out absolute crap and expected us to pay $30 for it. Atari thought because ET made $400 million at the box office people would buy a game with ET on the box even if it sucked ass. They literally only took 5 weeks to make that game and it showed. That's just one example. |

Good call, except I was one of the sheep who bought into that intense E.T. game hype and was out $40 (at the time I think that was the game cost?). I just never saw what was so great about NES. At the time that came out, PC gaming was in it's golden age. I didn't jump back into consoles (from the Atari) until the Genesis came out. |

| reply to cjski 33 here, too old? I don't think so? Who decides what age is allowed to have what hobbies? Isn't that up to the user?
But as for twitch reflexes? Well, it really depends on the game. I've been gaming for years and I don't really define COD as a twitch game, I think of it more as a "smart play" or "best strategy" wins type of game. So therefore, a smart player who covers angles better and covers team mates better usually has the upper hand. I mean, sure, there is a twitch element to COD, people sneak up on you, you get caught by surprise, that type of thing. However, I still think strategy is a better option.
I'm pretty good at COD because of that style of play, sure there are faster aimers, quicker reflexed and probably these people are younger, but I usually beat them up on that game. I have a kill to death ratio of over 2 - 1, not that that's everything in that game.Plus, older people are better smack talkers! Not trying to sound conceited, just trying to make the point that I'm older and yet doing just fine on there, you can check out my stats on Xbox live, gamertag: RiVAL
