Well, you've seen the commentary about it ... your choice. |

| i decided to try AVG for a bit before going back to ROP...interestingly enough, the same "crap" that everyone was complaining about in the ROP is in the fine print of the AVG "terms of service" as well...the whole "collecting data info" stuff...it is probably in all of the "free" versions. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to xtech1 i need help. im a bit of a technophobe:( im new to this forum. i found this thread on a google search i did to find out why ROP was messing up my computer. I'm glad I removed it. It was horrible. The uninstall was even worse. There's still the ServicePoint Agent on my pc that I can't remove. Also, several shortcuts on my start menu don't work at all. This started when I first installed ROP, but it's still persisting. I hope I don't discover any worse problems than this. I'm installing Norton, but how do I get rid of the remnants of that horrible rogers suite? I tried the Windows uninstall but it repeatedly said there was an error with the procedure. Im using Vista Home Premium 32-bit. Anyone else still experience these after uninstalling? Also, when I tried a system restore point, it seriously messed up my internet connection, so I had to undo that. |

| i have the same OS...mine installed and uninstalled smoothly...no problems at all...i am currently using AVG 8.5 to try it out...Avira couldn't be shut down and kept popping up a window right in the middle of me gaming. -- Today's motto: Dearly beloved, We are gathered here today to bid farewell to personal responsibility and accountability. |

| reply to xtech1 Well I tried that crap for 2 days and man it slowed my whole system down. I was waiting like hours to get a scan done. I purchased Kaspersky Internet Suite 2009 and I could not be happier, it is a great piece of internet security and i can install it in 3 computers for 59.00 a year cant go wrong with that, I am happy with it and am sticking with it. |

It's never good when something won't uninstall...
First, try going into your Task Manager (CTRL+ALT Delete) click start Task Manager. Go to the Processes tab, look for anything that might be Rogers related, ROP, ServicePoint Agent, etc. And click 'End Process' to stop the program(s) then try to unistall the software again. |

| I checked, and there are no processes. I think it may have something to do with the registry keys..? I went into Program Files and I renamed the Servicepoint agent folder and that did the trick. The ROP folder itself, can't be removed. It says "you do not have permission". This folder is filled with .dll files and other stuff. The servicepoint agent folder still has unins000 but it doesn't uninstall.
I have no clue why it didn't uninstall properly. My sister uninstalled her ROP suite completely on her hp laptop. No problems. |

@videotron.ca | After uninstall you should run the uninstall-uninstaller.
Raidial-Points website should tell you how to dispose of this spyware permanently. |

| reply to xtech1 What's funny is that I took a hop over to radial points (the makers of this spyware) forum (which they have wiped clean untold times) to see what anyone has to say about it.
I get "This Account Has Been Suspended"
Doesn't matter if I use a videotron IP or a Norwegian IP, result is the same. Also, I never had an account there to be suspended to begin with!
Does everyone get this account suspended crap when going to look at their forum?
On another note, if you have problems with this thing check their knowledge base: »www.radialpoint.net/support/kb.php (some info is very outdated)
Also, radial-point contracts out the knowledge base to their telco suppliers. Bell has a copy of their knowledge base on their own host (to make it seem like theirs), and so should rogers as well.
Let us know...
As for the uninstall problem, use the knowledge base (look for uninstall) and try the RpsUU.exe tool.
Also, the MS clean up tool may also be required/used "msicuu2.exe". When using this pay attention to what you are highlighting, names change from one ISP to another.
Enjoy your "free" spyware. |

Something in the registry might still be loading at Startup.
If the tools listed above fail to work, but I think they should work...
You can try this, click the bottom-left windows button, go to the search box and enter msconfig. Click the Startup tab and look for any Rogers programs and uncheck them (this will also tell you where where in the registry they might be if you want to delete them).
Also check the Services tab in msconfig and disable any Rogers programs.
Go to the General tab and click Selective startup. Now reboot. Try to delete the Rogers folder/files.
This works with many other programs that fail to uninstall properly. Good Luck. |

| reply to xtech1 Thank you. It's completely disabled now. Though, the Rogers Online Protection folder still demands I get "permission" to remove it, even after I confirm the action as an administrator.
Wish I read this thread before installing. Was it really so difficult to partner with a decent software provider? What a horrible joke of a program. |

Read »www.uwec.edu/help/winva/perm-advfolder.htm
Check step 15 and make sure under Admin that all the options are checked to 'Allow' (like Delete). The ROP folder might have set these options to 'Deny' like your Windows OS folder. |

| This is incredibly frustrating. I cannot believe what is happening: I followed all the steps.. I even acquired ownership of the folder, and still it won't delete! So I deleted the entire parent ROP folder, restarted my computer, and this happened: A very small window opened saying RPS was preparing to install. So now I check my Program Files folder again, and there it is. A new ROP folder, only, no servicepoint agent and this one has few files in it. And there's something that's quite frightening. I tried to repeat the process and change the permissions again, only now I notice another account in the list. It's unknown and has a string of numbers attached.
This is starting to scare me. |

| reply to xtech1 So why is nobody using the Free AVAST antivirus.
I have it installed on 7 computers, it has never nagged me and has never let a virus in. I scan all computers regularly with online scanners and have never found an infection.
Try it, you won't be disappointed. |

| reply to tory_elle Try starting Vista in Safe Mode (start tapping F8 during the boot).
Then try the uninstall again and/or delete the folder.
Check the User Accounts in the Control Panel, see if that numbered user account is there. Should be ok delete. If you don't see the account it might just be a hidden Windows System account, don't worry. |

| reply to tory_elle Call Rogers and tell them to pay for the removal of their spyware that has many known problems and issues.
No executive office there? Call them.
It's not like this issue is unheard of. They should be very well acquainted with Radial-Points Software problems. |

| reply to xtech1 Yes, you could be right. I don't see it anymore. Thanks for all your help. I managed to remove everything except AVCntxtR.dll which wouldn't give me permission. ROP was still on my list of programs in the windows uninstaller. But all my broken shortcuts are restored now that the bulk of the program is permanently gone.
Of course I called Rogers weeks ago before I attempted manual removal. A Rogers technician had remotely accessed my computer, looked around, then attempted uninstall via Windows uninstall (come on!). After seeing the error window, he concluded that there's a problem with my operating system (according to him, ROP was gone, but my OS thought it still existed), there was nothing they could do about it, and that I better get it checked asap. That was depressing, as this is a brand new computer. I wrote a couple of lengthy emails to Radialpoint. Of course I don't expect them to reply, but it's nice to blow off some steam.
So today, I call up Rogers again and here's a shock: they have a removal tool, and they send me the link. I have no clue why they didn't say so in the first place. After all that...Anyhow, I run it, reboot, and the ghost is finally off the list. It didn't delete that .dll file, but the restrictions on it were lifted so I deleted it.
Well, I will never again install without thoroughly researching. |
