said by tory_elle :here's a shock: they have a removal tool, and they send me the link. I have no clue why they didn't say so in the first place. After all that...Anyhow, I run it, reboot, and the ghost is finally off the list. It didn't delete that .dll file, but the restrictions on it were lifted so I deleted it. No shock, and don't be shocked.
They probably found out about it in this forum (don't be shocked that they use this forum to learn about the very spyware the give you).
This won't be the last complaint (or first) they get from this. It pretty well documented and known.
The shock would be if Radial-Point replies to you. Though I know they have to a couple of people. But mostly you're just a pee-on and it's the ISP's problem since they contract out this spyware.
More will creep up as more consumers who use it find their way here looking for help on these issues.
Not a shocker at all. |

| reply to tory_elle I'm very glad you were finally able to resolve your issues. The ROP program has serious problems for some users. The broken links/shortcuts are common, for a Rogers tech to tell you that you have problems with your OS is complete nonsense.
I strongly suspect RadialPoint failed to do proper software testing. I think of the current ROP as a beta beware program which should of never been released.
Just a few follow up notes...
RadialPoint never responded to my email sent in June.
Rogers (via phone) would not discuss ROP software issues, except those I am experiencing personally on my own computer.
Symantec gave us (company home users) a great rate.
No significant problems with our users using Norton. |

If you did, you would not say what you did.
"current" is nothing compared to it's past. |

1 edit | "Current" as in the last couple of months! I stand by my comments, ROP is garbage and RadialPoint did not respond to my detailed concerns, nor would Rogers discuss the problem.
It is pretty clear that proper software QA protocols were not followed upon its first release to the public. I have seen too many problems with ROP to think or believe anything else.
When you have a Rogers tech telling someone that it is their OS and not a faulty ROP program, I have a big problem with that.
Rogers went on the cheap, dumped Norton and got a very bad product in return. Rogers will never admit anything so I am not wasting my time trying to talk with them again.
Rogers knows there are major problems...The evidence is that a second version of ROP (ver. 2.5) was out in short order. |

| Man, what a pain to get ROP (Norton version) uninstalled.
Uninstalled Norton Internet Security - generally went OK, except that Norton Systemworks then kept complaining about a missing file... so ended up uninstalling/reinstalling it to correct that.
But the Rogers Yahoo components were a real problem. Ran the uninstall program, and it got everything removed except the "base components". No matter what, "base components" would not leave, it just paused for a few seconds then came back. And the program files\yahoo\ directory was loaded with files from stuff that was supposed to be gone.
Ended up manually deleting the Yahoo directory, removing the add/remove listing for it, then running a registry cleaner to get rid of DOZENS of Yahoo-oriented registry settings. WTF does it think it's doing with all those services and ActiveX entries?
Never again. |

heh Yep. This is what Bell Canada would say to all their customers for the past few years. Same thing.
People like the person above should call Rogers and tell them to pay to have their computer fixed. Their app that's breaking it.
@Sunfox As noted early on in this topic, uninstalling Norton does not uninstall it (same like this radial-points garbage). You need to use the Norton uninstall utility after using regular uninstall.
IE. both need to be uninstalled then a separate uninstall utility run.
The worse thing here is that the radial-point spyware won't run properly if you uninstall norton and don't run their uninstaller app. (Guess norton protects you from this spyware , actually it's left over reg entries from norton that buggers radial-point up)
ah well.
Since radial-point now bought some online back-up service a couple of months ago, I expect the Rogers and Bell's to start giving that for free* (*7$ increase to your Bell/Rogers services). Holding your data locked on some offsite place hostage in case you cancel is always a good scare tactic to prevent you from leaving them. |

| reply to tory_elle hi, are you still having problems uninstalling ROP? if you call Rogers, they'll send you a program that will completely uninstall it. also you can try CCleaner, it's awesome. CCleaner is free and will uninstall programs...then you can scan your computer for all those pesky leftover unused associated files! It takes away all traces of programs. |

| reply to xtech1 I do not trust the Rogers Online Protection. I worked for a call centre as a tech support person where we had to deal with customers calling about probs with a related Radial Point Security Service. It was my most dreaded call. The only thing that helped was putting the customer on 'mute' and banging my head on my desk. |

1 edit | reply to xtech1 Interesting. I think this program needs to given time.;) I myself am a computer technician and have tested this program on numerous computers and ALL of them are running smoothly. Norton was good in the very beginning. Right now it's terrible. McAfee is also terrible. avast! is quite good, as is AVR and AVG. Also, I had no problems whatsoever installing and removing and installing again...no need for the removal tool. As a computer tech and I've been one for over 30 years I recommend this software. |
