leafar : Best advice for an email address change is to secure another email address (like gmail?) before you cancel. Then redirect your @sbcglobal email to the new address while informing all your contacts of the change. Ask them to confirm by replying. Maybe start using your new email address your signature.

Back up all your Yahoo email to your local drive. This may take a while if you haven't organized them into folders.

After a few weeks you should be able to safely loose your @sbcglobal email address - unless you are really attached to it.

d_l : Yes. You will have your email accounts for something like 30-60 days after you cancel. Maybe longer. I've not read any official statement of the time amount so I give a shorter period than may be the case. Could be up to 90 days, but don't count on it.

You can "buy" an extension of your email accounts by signing for dial up access.
