| reply to mckenna797 Re: reservations for climb to statue of liberty's crown
Demand is high for Statue of Liberty crown tickets Jun. 13Tickets to visit the Statue of Liberty's crown are already sold out for the first three days of its reopening next month, a National Park Service spokesman said Saturday.
The crown, closed since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is to reopen on the Fourth of July. Ticket sales began Saturday morning.
Reservations either by phone or via www.statuecruises.com.
Saturday, the reservation line was busy and access to the Web site was slow and spotty, signaling a deluge of ticket requests.
"The issues on access to the Web and calling through is just really related to volume," park service spokesman Darren Boch said Saturday. "The crown is sold out for the fourth, fifth and the sixth [of July] already."
To reach Lady Liberty's crown, visitors must climb 354 steps in a cramped, enclosed staircase. The statue is not air-conditioned and temperatures inside can be 20 degrees higher than those outside, according to the park service.
For safety considerations, no more than 10 people will be allowed to visit the crown at a time, with about three groups climbing to the crown each hour, according to the National Park Service.
Tickets to visit the crown will cost an additional $3 and will be combined with ferry tickets, which are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for children.
Tickets can be reserved for as long as one year in advance. As many as four tickets can be reserved per customer. Only one reservation per person is allowed within a six-month period.
To get a ticket either: Call 877-523-9849
Visit www.statuecruises.com, select "Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island tickets," then select a ferry location and "reserve with crown ticket" and "choose your date and times." |

| reply to lilhurricane I went up years ago. For anyone over 6' tall (I'm 6'4"), the climb is very uncomfortable. The stairs are narrow and cramped making it a tough climb. Once you're in the crown, the view is nice but not worth the climb, IMHO. I also went on a hot summer day and the temperature inside the statue was at least 90, making it all that much worse. |
