Re: Frontier DSL in NY Latency and packet loss issuesTech just left,he replaced my modem w/ a SIEMENS Gigaset SE567 Said he hasnt heard of any bandwith issues in my nieghborhood. I feed to a remote about half a mile down the road. He said its fiber fed to the CO. Tests on the line and the modem all looked good. While he was here I tried pinging several different sites and the packet loss was happening. He couldnt explain it, but took down the results of my line quality tests and said he would forward them to Frontier IT dept. I let him read the response from Smith and he just shrugged his shoulders saying its Fiber, shouldnt be a bandwith issue. Anyone? |

Well it may be fiber, but even it can have bandwith issues based on the technology and settings. Take my area for example where everything is fiber fed. My area had ran out of bandwith and had to boost it, but we had no packet loss, just high latency. When Frontier's fiber line was damaged, we had actually the proper speeds, but we had resyncing, packet loss and varied latency. Fiber itself has no limits.
Just take Frontier's fiber SONET ring to NJ which seems to have bandwith issues on busy days. |
