| New Firmware Ver. 1.32b02NA_beta01 for DIR-655 There is new beta firmware on the Dlink ftp site. I have been running it for about a day. It seems to be better than the previous 1.3x firmwares.

4 edits | I would hardly qualify it as better than 1.31, but then I use G mode only so I don't know about the N part. But what I've found is that 1.32 introduces a new quirk that is very odd. After a router reboot, I get this extra unsecured SSID named "dlink" which appears to be because of the guest zone, even though that is OFF (and has always been its default "dlink_guest"). Toggling the guest zone on/off or turning it on but set to Never makes this rogue extra SSID go away. (Maybe it won't reappear with guest zone on but set to Never now, will see.)

| Running this firmware now for a few days on my A4 version. As with the first beta of 1.32NA, I have noticed about every 8~10 hours the log shows "wireless restart" but the router does not boot to recover. I run reserved DHCP so the laptops seem to recover pretty quickly.
I do not run the Guest SSID, but I also have not seen it auto turn on nor broadcast under both beta versions of 1.32NA which others have mentioned in other threads.
I do not use the advanced DNS per I really seen no value to it when I tested it in version >1.31.
Running Securespot first level. Does not seem to have any issues, able to filter bad sites quickly while identifying most devices correctly. The only device which I thought was quirky was Securespot could not identify the Dlink made DNS-323 NAS nor did they even have an option for a NAS.
Running PS3, PS2, Wii, Tivo, desktops, laptops and winmo 6.1 phone is able to all link up with it and run to web without issues. PS3 seems to lag at times but I still blame that on crappy Sony drivers for their own wireless nic. It has had issues when wired or wireless to dlink, linksys and Belkin products I have tested it on.
One quirk I did note starting on 1.31. Under the QOS engine tab, the auto detect on connection type does not seem to work correctly on a cable connection. Set it manually for cable or broadband. Most of the time it seems to discover the upstream speed better then when matched against the various speed test sites and a greater value.

I need at least a 36Mbit connection to stream blu-rays through TVersity without hick-ups. The laptop gets a 87% signal and a rate of 54 next to the PS3. Haven't noticed any weird quirks with the UI, the router doesn't seem to feel bogged down anymore and websites are loading fast again. Also, when the PS3 is the only wireless device active I seem to get: Network Device 2: G Rate 24-38Mbits 63% Signal (PS3) 3 hours in and I'm going to say that this firmware is superior to 1.31 in stability and performance. Sounds right with these firmwares.. 1.11 was the best, but suffers from WAN speed bug.

| well I decided to load the beta (1.32B02NA_beta01) since 1.31 kept locking up after a day or so. been running it for almost 24 hours and no problems so far. Granted the speeds are a little slower than 1.11 but stability is the key. Will keep monitoring it for changes. | |

The only d-link routers out currently that can support 600mbps is DIR-825 and DIR-855 Single should be able to do 600mbps dual 2.4GHz and 5.3GHz doesn't mean it's going to double. But right now Atheros is 300mbps in all DIR 655/825/855 series and DGL 4500.
But now most of us know the limits are by the chip set and not what was originally reported as 600mbps. Most of these right now are only in a range of 60/120/130 some do see 150 for N. The router speed is vary. You'll never get 300mbps total throughput.

2 edits | Re: New Firmware Ver. 1.32b02NA_beta01 for DIR-655 K, I decided to brave it with the odd wireless loss lately.
update seems to have gone fine.
After restoring setting first thing I try with every update can I turn on B and G and N mode and B still work..... No.
my neighbors laptop reconnected quickly in N mode my printer reconnected in G my Palm TX sometimes saw the guest SSID (1 in 5 scans maybe) never saw the primary. As it (the Palm TX) already knows the the keys for either SSID it should be able to connect as if SSID was just invisible. But alias no joy. It never connected to either SSID in Mixed B, G and N mode and in Mixed B&GG mode this is NEVER an issue.
So it remains if you need B than Mixed B and G mode and B only are the only two options that actually WORK. If your tempted for Mixed B, G and N ya might as well just go Mixed G and N if you really don't need B. -- DLink DIR-655 (a3) Siemens SpeedStream 4100

Panasonic 2.4GHz was great but they didn't last more than 1.6 years. So I had purchased the top of the line Vtech 5.8GHz DSS 4-phones and base/ans. Those lasted me 3 years well I mean they do work still. Now I got the top of the line Vtech in DECT 6.0 5-phones and base/ans.
Well I do have 150/300Mhz again but I have to have DLINK on don't know what could be it. But the wireless is can't keep the internet connection in AP mode. That was the point on buying the Beklin N+ using Ralink chips found in the DIR-685.
