New Firmware Ver. 1.32b02NA_beta01 for DIR-655

There is new beta firmware on the Dlink ftp site. I have been running it for about a day. It seems to be better than the previous 1.3x firmwares.

I don't believe in that one either, nothing says that it should be better then the one before this one, there is a lot of bugs in these new firmware’s

I would hardly qualify it as better than 1.31, but then I use G mode only so I don't know about the N part. But what I've found is that 1.32 introduces a new quirk that is very odd. After a router reboot, I get this extra unsecured SSID named "dlink" which appears to be because of the guest zone, even though that is OFF (and has always been its default "dlink_guest"). Toggling the guest zone on/off or turning it on but set to Never makes this rogue extra SSID go away. (Maybe it won't reappear with guest zone on but set to Never now, will see.)

Running this firmware now for a few days on my A4 version. As with the first beta of 1.32NA, I have noticed about every 8~10 hours the log shows "wireless restart" but the router does not boot to recover. I run reserved DHCP so the laptops seem to recover pretty quickly.

I do not run the Guest SSID, but I also have not seen it auto turn on nor broadcast under both beta versions of 1.32NA which others have mentioned in other threads.

I do not use the advanced DNS per I really seen no value to it when I tested it in version >1.31.

Running Securespot first level. Does not seem to have any issues, able to filter bad sites quickly while identifying most devices correctly. The only device which I thought was quirky was Securespot could not identify the Dlink made DNS-323 NAS nor did they even have an option for a NAS.

Running PS3, PS2, Wii, Tivo, desktops, laptops and winmo 6.1 phone is able to all link up with it and run to web without issues. PS3 seems to lag at times but I still blame that on crappy Sony drivers for their own wireless nic. It has had issues when wired or wireless to dlink, linksys and Belkin products I have tested it on.

One quirk I did note starting on 1.31. Under the QOS engine tab, the auto detect on connection type does not seem to work correctly on a cable connection. Set it manually for cable or broadband. Most of the time it seems to discover the upstream speed better then when matched against the various speed test sites and a greater value.

1.11:
Network Device 1: G Rate 54Mbits 100% Signal (Laptop)
Network Device 2: G Rate 42Mbits 69% Signal (PS3)
Network Device 3: N Rate 270Mbits 95% Signal (Work PC)

1.31:
Network Device 1: G Rate 36Mbits 90% Signal (Laptop)
Network Device 2: G Rate 24Mbits 66% Signal (PS3)
Network Device 3: N Rate 108Mbits 81% Signal (Work PC)

1.32B:
Network Device 1: G Rate 54Mbits 100% Signal (Laptop)
Network Device 2: G Rate 11-24Mbits 60% Signal (PS3)
Network Device 3: N Rate 108Mbits 100% Signal (Work PC)

I might just run CAT5E to the PS3, their wireless drivers suck balls. I need at least a 36Mbit connection to stream blu-rays through TVersity without hick-ups. The laptop gets a 87% signal and a rate of 54 next to the PS3.

Haven't noticed any weird quirks with the UI, the router doesn't seem to feel bogged down anymore and websites are loading fast again.

Also, when the PS3 is the only wireless device active I seem to get:

Network Device 2: G Rate 24-38Mbits 63% Signal (PS3)

3 hours in and I'm going to say that this firmware is superior to 1.31 in stability and performance.

Sounds right with these firmwares.. 1.11 was the best, but suffers from WAN speed bug.

Running great for almost 2 days, no slowdowns or any bull, minus the fact that I still can't get 270Mbits on N like in 1.11 things are doing OK.

All brands are showing 270mbps now.. I waiting to see how it goes in September when N is out of Draft and Standard. What speed will it be?

600mbps
300mbps
270mbps
240mbps

well I decided to load the beta (1.32B02NA_beta01) since 1.31 kept locking up after a day or so. been running it for almost 24 hours and no problems so far. Granted the speeds are a little slower than 1.11 but stability is the key. Will keep monitoring it for changes.

Shouldn't need a reboot.. Did it lockup or did you loose WAN/LAN connections?

u need two dual band simultaneous radios for 600mbps, the most throughput dir-655 will ever show is 300mbps.

The only d-link routers out currently that can support 600mbps is DIR-825 and DIR-855

Single should be able to do 600mbps dual 2.4GHz and 5.3GHz doesn't mean it's going to double. But right now Atheros is 300mbps in all DIR 655/825/855 series and DGL 4500.

But now most of us know the limits are by the chip set and not what was originally reported as 600mbps. Most of these right now are only in a range of 60/120/130 some do see 150 for N. The router speed is vary. You'll never get 300mbps total throughput.

All the N brands that aren't dual-band are showing speeds of about 100-120Mbits - I think the final N standard is going to be around those speeds. Which sucks bad because I could get almost 300Mbits on 1.11.

You know that Securespot can easily be turned off. Most use find it useless anyway.

10 days here now and no anomalies developed. (I still haven't done a test reboot to see if the strange extra "dlink" SSID appears again.)

Re: New Firmware Ver. 1.32b02NA_beta01 for DIR-655

K, I decided to brave it with the odd wireless loss lately.

update seems to have gone fine.

After restoring setting first thing I try with every update can I turn on B and G and N mode and B still work..... No.

my neighbors laptop reconnected quickly in N mode
my printer reconnected in G
my Palm TX sometimes saw the guest SSID (1 in 5 scans maybe) never saw the primary. As it (the Palm TX) already knows the the keys for either SSID it should be able to connect as if SSID was just invisible. But alias no joy. It never connected to either SSID in Mixed B, G and N mode and in Mixed B&GG mode this is NEVER an issue.

So it remains if you need B than Mixed B and G mode and B only are the only two options that actually WORK. If your tempted for Mixed B, G and N ya might as well just go Mixed G and N if you really don't need B.

How we with this router? I have mine back-up and running again. Long story.. I got DECT 6.0 1.9GHz cordless phones and ditched the 5.8GHz cordless phones as the maker had cheated on these 5.8GHz making the base phone 5.8GHz and the 4 others extenders 2.4GHz boy what a mess on 2.4GHz wireless band. Now that gone. N been wacky with DECT 6.0 friendly wi-fi phone set.

Panasonic 2.4GHz was great but they didn't last more than 1.6 years. So I had purchased the top of the line Vtech 5.8GHz DSS 4-phones and base/ans. Those lasted me 3 years well I mean they do work still. Now I got the top of the line Vtech in DECT 6.0 5-phones and base/ans.

Well I do have 150/300Mhz again but I have to have DLINK on don't know what could be it. But the wireless is can't keep the internet connection in AP mode. That was the point on buying the Beklin N+ using Ralink chips found in the DIR-685.

My settings..
802.11b/g/n
20/40Hz
Auto Channel
Best MB/s
WPA2/AES

QOs/Wish are left to defaults...

Now I haven't bother to re-flash to the beta as I am getting the above..

Well that's good, don't be shock maybe someone is getting it right at DLINK. Wait for the DIR-685 hits the USA market. Sure to have some issues with that storage router firmware. I hope they get that right they did something like install a fan in it.

My wireless speeds got even slower with this one than 1.31 which really borked it. I can't even use the router now, thanks dumb-link. It was perfect till I got dumb and upgraded to 1.31.

Set it to 802.11b/g/n
Set it to Auto Channel
Set it to Auto 20/40Hz
Set it to WPA2/DES

Try that see what you get.. I am getting a steady-Eddie 150/300 now. using 1.31.
