Tall antenna hitting things

Have you ever hit your antenna on a traffic light? Until this weekend I never had. Just put on a new 20 meter HF mobile antenna on the car and still getting used to its size. Tons of fun so far, though. Got it hooked up to a T-900.

Whoops, meant FT-900, not T-900.

Got Luxembourg this morning on the way in with it.

Every time I go into a parking structure I have to fold over my VHF/UHF whip on my Jeep. Otherwise it whacks the support beams on the ceiling of the parking structure.

I have a 5/8 wave dual bander that I somehow always manage to run into things with. So far it has held up admirably. Branches and drive thrus seem to be the biggest culprits.

I keep meaning to take it off the roof and get a different bracket fabricated because taking it off the roof of my Jeep every day is a pain, bigger than easing under something short and just 'rubbing' a little.

I guess that will happen one day when it finally breaks...

Yes, have had this problem. Drilled into my Acura for a great antenna (worth it, by the way even if it brought the resale value down a bit unless I sell it to a ham). Sometimes it hits stuff. Once I even hit a power line repair unit that was working when I drove under it. Kept driving, though. Only saw a few sparks. Overall, definitely worth the effort to add another antenna and unit to the car. You can never have too many!

I did meet a wacker a while back who glued fake antennas to his car to give the impression that he was super wired. But, like I said, he was a wacker

I've hit overpasses, tree limbs and traffic signals already. Not to mention forgetting to take off the whip before I enter parking garages.
