| Stormy pattern continues for Plains/Southeast
June 15, 2009
Midwest Showers and thunderstorms will move across the central Plains and Missouri Valley into this afternoon. While a few thunderstorms may be severe early on, the main concern will be heavy rain moving over the same area, which may result in flash flooding. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also expected through the day across the Dakotas. By late this afternoon, more thunderstorms are expected to fire up in the central High Plains. Some of these storms could produce large hail and tornadoes. A quieter weather day is in store for the western Great Lakes. High pressure will allow for sunny skies and seasonable temperatures. Expect high temperatures in the upper 70s around the lakes to the mid 80s in the upper Mississippi and Ohio Valleys. Across the Plains, temperatures will generally be in the 70s and 80s, with southern Kansas flirting with the 90s.
South Showers and thunderstorms will be prevalent across the Southeast once again today. A cluster of showers and thunderstorms will move from the Midwest into the Tennessee Valley this afternoon. Some of these storms could pack strong gusty winds and heavy rain. Elsewhere, due to the summerlike humidity already in place, scattered showers and thunderstorms will pop up from the Carolinas southward through Florida and westward into Mississippi. Texas will remain high and dry. Parts of central and southern Texas that desperately need the rain will not get it. An upper-level ridge will continue to build across the region, meaning sunny skies and high heat will dominate. Highs temperatures across much of Texas will be in the upper 90s to low 100s. The rest of the south will be in the 90s, except for North Carolina, North Georgia, and much of Tennessee, which will be in the 80s.
Northeast Showers and thunderstorms will be scattered across the Northeast today. As an upper-level system swings across the region, a few storms could produce some small hail or gusty winds across Upstate New York, eastern Pennsylvania, and western New England. Rainfall amounts are generally expected to be light. Much of the region will finally dry out Tuesday. Monday, look for the cool trend in temperatures continue, particularly across eastern areas. Highs will only be in the 60s across much of New England and the New York City metro area. Elsewhere, 70s will be commonplace.
West A pesky upper-level trough that has been hanging around the West will once again cause afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop. These storms will be most prevalent from the Sierra of California to the Rockies of Colorado and Montana. Some of these storms could producer locally heavy rainfall. The Southwest will remain dry, albeit with scattered clouds. High temperatures across much of the region will continue to be below seasonal norms. Expect highs five to ten degrees below average from Southern California and Arizona into Idaho and Wyoming. Phoenix will continue its June streak of days without reaching 100. Much of the West will be in the 70s with 60s across the Rockies. Expect 80s in parts of Montana, interior Washington and the central California valleys. -- »www.insidetheie.com/ »earthlogii.blogspot.com/ »vietaffairsvets.blogspot.com/
Why is it that people who never pay attention to the weather are always the first to complain.
