BitPremium join:2009-02-19 00000 4 edits | Awesome! GDP to grow 6% this year!?! Unemply below 5%!?!?! The budget crisis is solved, the economy fixed, healthcare problems over, energy crisis over, all the troops are home...
At least it must be since only after the PRIORITIES these asswipes are supposed to be working on are completed should they spend 1 G-D second worried about what distributor carries a particular product.
What is next? They are going to bitch that Transformers came out on HBO only instead of Starz? That you have to subscribe to cable to get On Demand? Exclusive distribution deals happen every day in nearly every industry.
If the iPhone or the Pre were the only phones on the planet, sure, it could be a problem but theses are just a couple of the a zillion handsets in a hugely competitive marketplace. -- POKE 65495,1 |

I agree. But we are moving rapidly in to the control of the populists that now run the government. And the squeaky wheel will be greased whether it should be or not. We can't have all those fanatic, whining iPhone customers locked in to AT&T or the world will spin off its axis.

 | reply to funchords Then again, lets have people purchase iphones, which are an adult version of the same platform. All apple did was take a kid's toy, put it into a phone version and sell it. I do not see the iphone as a business phone or even an advanced handset. Im sorry, android has MMS the first day, has taken Apple over two years to get it, and it still isnt working!! Not to mention that apple stole the compass in the phone design from android/htc (the g1 being the first phone to have it). I had an iphone for about a month before i realized that im not a little boy anymore. I stepped up to something that at least has potential and i can modify any way i please, so i bought a G1 and never been happier.
Not to mention that the quality on a GSM network by far beats a CDMA. I had verizon, everywhere i went (big city, little city) i hear hiss on the line. Also, same thing applies nowadays, if i call another GSM based customer the quality is perfect. When i call a verizon or sprint phone, all i hear is static and hiss. Also, AT&T and Tmobile will not be going to CDMA ever. Its a stupid move. First off because when AT&T version 1 was alive, they used TDMA, then they went to Cingular and changed everything to GSM. Why would they go to a CDMA network when the entire world (except for north america) uses GSM networks. Thats why GSM is a worldwide standard. I want to be able to roam where i need to and always have service.
The smartest thing for the CDMA carriers to do is upgrade to GSM, create roaming agreements with AT&T and Tmo and reap the roaming costs that they pay for us to roam on their networks. CDMA is for the birds. Course by that time comes, LTE will be here. |

 | Upgrade to GSM? You mean like GSM carriers are upgrading to W-CDMA?

Not going to happen, you have his merciful Obamaness illegally firing those who's job it is to keep the government honest, you aren't going to see one solitary investigation....unless of course that congressman isn't compliant. -- Come let us reason together. |

| reply to Bit You are going under the presumption that the government can only function doing one thing at a time. The budget, economy, healthcare, energy, et al problems aren't going to be magically solved by 1 or 535 Congresscritters. They can multitask and work on more then one issue at a time. |

BitPremium join:2009-02-19 00000 | Congress is not "the government". This isn't the CIA doing one thing like the NSA is doing something else.
These are Senators who need to dedicate EVERY SECOND of their work to the priorities, not try and repay bribes by pushing through favors for their corporate contributors.
Handset exclusivity is not even a "problem" for the government to solve, and certainly isn't anything that should be on the radar of Congress or the FCC at this time of prolonged crisis. -- POKE 65495,1 |

Right, because those smaller cellular companies bribe the congress critters so much more then the likes of Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint. If it was solely about repaying bribes, only the one who bribes the most would ever get repaid "in full". Everyone else would get screwed in the process.
The government HAS to deal with businesses. Welcome to the real world. Get over it.

Hmm, I don't think it's a real pressing issue, but it is of some importance. The market is dominated by a few key players. If they get the "best" phones tied to them exclusively, then they retain their customers while attracting customers away from the competition, growing in the process. The smaller companies have little chance of grabbing an exclusive deal to entice customers to their service just because of their size. It's not a monopoly, but it's a oligopoly and they deserves some attention. |

BitPremium join:2009-02-19 00000 4 edits | Congress isn't 1/3 of government. While they are a branch of government, they only write legislation and take bribes. They don't execute policy, and certainly don't actually perform the execution of policy. They are less than 700 out of nearly 20 million Federal employees. It is the 20 million that allows government to walk and chew gum. Congress can not. When Congress takes on so many things at once, NONE of it gets done or it gets done horribly.
Congress has more than enough on it's plate than to waste taxpayer dollars doing favors for rural wireless. Any Congressman who took money and is now doing the favor should go to prison along with the rural wireless exec who paid the money.
What is next for them, going after movie companies who choose HBO over Starz for exclusive pay tv distribution of their movies? This is just more typical payforplay politics and these Senawhores should be ashamed of themselves. -- POKE 65495,1 |
