Stupid

Nobody is forcing the American people to buy an iPhone. Apple has a right to put their phone on the network of their choice. Last time I checked this is a free country where people and businesses are free to make the decisions they want. More anti-businesses idealism that will drive the cost of goods and services higher and will slow down innovation.

blatant violation of both property rights and contractual agreements; what next, the government forcing computer companies to share their patents and ideas because 'exclusiveness' doesn't foster competition?

This is complete BS. As much as I would love to have the iPhone on Sprint, I wouldn't want it to be because of coercion acted upon another individual.

One of the property rights that goes with developing a new product is the right to market it. Restricting the right is confiscating property with out compensation.

Agreed however Apple should also have the freedom to bring the iPhone to other carriers and not be locked to one carrier.

Apple has that freedom know. It was Apple that chose to only release with Att.
Whatever politician whats to do this is stupid. Apple has a right to restrict their product how they want.

Apple first approached Verizon with the iphone deal and verizon turned them down because they said the phones were too expensive.

Verizon realized their mistake and now they are trying to bribe congress to fix it. The Iphone sucks anyways. Real internet phones have real keyboards.

They do, they always have since day one. They chose to sign a contract with AT&T. What makes Apple different from HTC, Palm, RIM, LG, and various other cell phone companies that make phones for multiple carriers?

What Apple did was outrageous. People unlocked their phones, and Apple's patch locked them out.
I don't know if that is illegal or not to unlock a phone. but, I would sure think it was illegal for Apple to render ineffective merchandise paid for.

I won't even go into what I think of AS&S. They could shut their doors (forever, this time) and I wouldn't shed a tear. I'd probably be out their cheering as I saw them take a wrecking ball to the sign at their headquarters.
But, let me be clear, I LOATHE that company, for their stupid and evil ways.

As far as exclusive contracts go, I never did see the point. Sure, for that jack-ass company; but, how does it benefit Apple, or any other company? Did the exclusive contract net them more money than the number of people (like me) who refused to buy an Iphone because it was linked to the devil? They couldnt give me an Iphone for free or pay me enough money to endorse or use the IPhone, simply because of who they partnered up with.

I do hope the law changes. I have always felt exclusivity was anti-cpmpetitive in an illegal manner. Not just with this, but, also with services, such as Verizon or Sprint's exclusive clips of people's favorite shows. Since I use T-Mobile, people like me either have to switch, or, miss out on all those "exclusive" clips. Gee thanks...

Some areas, I guess it's ok. Some toy companies make their own toys, creating exclusives. I think that's ok. But, I don't think it's cool for stores to get exclusives. (Even though for collectors, its cool, because if they get one, they tend to go up in value). If T-Mobile manufactures a phone, I dont see why it cant be an exclusive. If Nokia makes a phone, I dont see why it should be exclusive to T-Mobile. Just how I see things.
