[Vista] Vista SLOW SHUTdown and restart?

Have a new Lenovo laptop with vista, the damn thing is so slow to shutdown and takes time to even restart. From what I hear this is a vista thing. Any work arounds to fix this?

First thing you might look at is your event logs it may give you a clue what is taking time at start & shutdown by looking at the time stamps - or errors.

I usually access it by right clicking desktop computer icon and choosing manage.

the problem lies with what programs are set to startup upon boot. removing those will significantly increase boot up. Open the start menu and type msconfig open it and click the startup tab and you an see all the things which are set to start.

no Im aware of the start up programs . this is the problem that you hear so much about with vista not shutting down for a while . I read others saying its fixed on ver 7 but who knows..

I've run 3 different systems thru 3 different versions of Vista and i've never had an issue with slow times..

Without insulting your intelligence - are you sure it has enough RAM? I have to ask - It is a memory hog.

Check your security programs to see if any are performing any extra start-up or shut-down scans.

You might also want to shut down some items that call home in the Sidebar, if you're running it.

I've found that sometimes if I shut down a lot of internet-connected programs quickly and then shut down the computer, it will take a while to close or will even hang. I think Vista gets confused - lol.

I have the same problem with my new Dell notebook. In the OEM configuration it would take up to 4 minutes (yes, four) to fully boot. I had to uninstall a ton of stuff to get it to a usable state. Shutdowns were brutal too. Windows 7 RC was a better but it was still unacceptable.
