I use North up when the distance to travel is more than a few miles but I use direction up as I approach the destination. I find it easier to navigate local streets in direction up but highways in North up. Luckily my Garmin has a threshold that is set to switch from one to the other as the zoom increases or decreases. -- Old dogs can learn new tricks!

Jahntassa What, I can have feathers Premium join:2006-04-14 Conway, SC	I voted heading up. Mostly because I tend to keep track of which direction i'm heading in subconsciously. Or at least, can determine it fairly quickly. However trying to take the time to look at a panning map and determine what's in 'front' of me is somehow mind-boggling.. Though I can do it easily while sitting still.
