[HN7000S] Hughes FTP problem or the Twilight Zone?

Here are the facts:

I rely on Hughes HN700S to continuously update our webstore via FTP and it has worked well for over a year. I have two computers connected to the modem through a Linksys WRT54GL router.

3 days ago, after uploading some files via FTP I could suddenly no longer connect to our server via FTP. I tried from both computers and using WS_FTP, FileZilla, and Bulletproof FTP.

My web host did some troubleshooting on his server and said there is nothing amiss on his end.

I power-cycled the modem. I connected the modem directly to the computer, bypassing router, nothing helped.

Weird thing is, I can connect via FTP to every other server I try, from both computers and through the router, but cannot connect to our own host. It's the only one that won't go through, the FTP programs just time out.

Using a dial-up I can connect to our server at once and upload files with no problem, from both computers, using any of the three FTP programs.

Hughes support has been no help at all.

1. Do you think, from the above info, that this is definitely a problem with the Hughes sat system?

2. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

3. Do you think that upgrading to a 9000 modem and the new sat will fix this?

Thanks.

Go here and do a couple of turbo page tear downs in a row. This will cycle you through several turbo page servers and may fix the problem.

Also try it with proxy on and off that sometimes solves the problem also.

Wife here, of klimshelf who asked question..

I did several Teardowns but because it says Turbo Page Advanced Configuration is disabled, I wonder if it actually functioned. No change.

Can you tell me where to turn proxy on and off?

Thanks for any more ideas or help.

Thank you very much for the suggestions.
I tried the TurboPage Tearddown several times but it didn't seem to actually work. Mine also says TurboPage Advanced Configuration is disabled. So perhaps that's why?

Where do I turn proxy on and off?

Tear down works. You just can't specify a particular server.

Put 192.168.0.1 in the exceptions for the test. You don't need the other numbers.

Java also interferes with my FTP sometimes. I think there was a new java update this week that may have some effect not sure.

I don't think a 9000 will fix it I have one of each and they pretty much work the same.

Thanks!
I use Firefox so those thumbnails didn't look familiar.
I had Manual proxy configuration selected, so I tried No Proxy and that didn't work.
So then I went back to Manual and checked "use this proxy server for all protocols" which included FTP proxy
but that didn't work either.

I'm outa ideas and can't help with Firefox.

The only thing i can think of it is timing out for some reason.

Have no idea why it would change.

I do appreciate the ideas.
I tried what you suggested in Internet Explorer as well.
Also set up a FTP program in FireFox and tried it with that - same results.
I just got off the phone with Hughes and they basically said they do not support FTP so they would not trouble shoot it with me.
It is puzzling why it would work for over a year and then suddenly, on both our computers at the exact same time, boing ! Like a switch had been flipped.

When did you get the latest software update to your modem?

Right now I dont think theirs any updates for your modem but if so it only happens like once or twice a year. but it gotta make its rounds to 1,000's of Hughesnet modems.

How would I know? Does it download automatically? Where would I look to see what version I have?

You have no control over it is automatic.

Look at my picture above the stuff marked out in red is the software version.

Or go to logs and look at the reset log it will tell you exactly when the last software download occurred.

But I don't think that is your problem as other FTP sites still work and it appears that you just have a problem with the one site.

In my reset log, all there is are daily Power Up Resets, that's all.

Are you trying to connect using the IP address?

I agree with A frame I should have thought of that but I bet you got one of those hosting services where you don't have an individual IP.

I got one other idea.

Try setting the proxy like above and run the ftp thru the secure server. There are lots of things that work thru the secure server that don't work other ways.

I just set mine that way and all my ftp stuff is still working.

Been through this deal more often than I care to think about.
In every case after pushing all the buttons, swearing and so forth I just had to wait for HN to straighten out. It sometimes took a couple of days. Usually but not always this ftp thing was accompanied by bad speeds, less than stellar browsing, etc,

PS: if you have your email on your host's server it probably isn't working either.

I don't know if we have an individual IP address or not. I'll find that out and try what you and Aframe suggested.
