[game] Werewolf

The chair fit snugly around his lounging frame. Each warp and weft of the synthetic fabric obeyed his seat, which quite deliberately crushed its stuffing into a matching form. A wisp of milky whiteness wafted around his hand as he missed once, then looking down from the hardcover in his hand he looped a finger through the cup's crook and sipped loudly. He never used to drink decaf, but sleep evaded him recently. Restlessness yielded to nightmares, and the sweats grew worse and worse. He hoped, as he sucked down the rancid beverage, that tonight would be different.

He first noticed it when he grabbed the cup, and now every turn of the page seared in his knuckles. He shifted, wiped his brow, and continued reading.

"With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the--"
Another twinge. He flattened his trousers and began again.

"With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual, I thus drew steadily nearer to the--"
The hair on his face began to itch. Still, he persisted.

"With every day, and from both sides of my intelligence, the moral and the intellectual, I thus drew steadily nearer to the truth, by whose partial discovery I have been doomed to such a dreadful shipwreck: that man is not truly one, but truly two."
Just then it erupted within him. He flailed about violently, the book impaled now to the viscous claws protruding from his claw-like fingers. The itch was all over him, and streaks of blood stained his clothes as he desperately scratched. Hair now began bursting from every follicle on his contorted body. A hellacious growl echoed down the hallway and out an open window near the front of the house, where it was met by a chorus of tormented wails and howls. As his transformation completed he bolted through the wall of his study, breaching the wall of the house. A kennel of beasts greets him there and instinctively they take off together into the bright white light of the full moon night.
Fair warning: New theme means new role names. You all know the rules, so this shouldn't be an issue.

It is now Day 1.

From what I've seen during my short time with these games, unless votes are tossed around on day 1, then the game goes quiet. Thank you for the recognition vote, though!

So, let's take some time to analyze the flavor to glean something about the format.

The "flav a flav" seems to indicate that there's only one Werewolf thus far. (A werewolf has to get it from somewhere, but I don't think we need to go down that road yet.) If the werewolf infects someone, they've been recruited? Maybe a limited recruiting mafia with night kills? Or is it no night kill and simply infections. The only killing happens during the day (lynches) and we lose when the werewolves outnumber us?

Thoughts?

I brought up a couple different thoughts -- can you clarify which you think it is?

Re: [game] Werewolf

It is my understanding that Warewolf is Mafia with different names and a strong possibility of recruitment.

I just saw Rook's post. That does look like it could mean an established gang.

I thought werewolf and mafia were the exact same game with different role names... I was expecting a group of werewolves and an uninformed majority of innocent town's people.

I think it is interesting that you bring up recruiting, I guess it makes sense with the werewolf lore.

Re: [game] Werewolf

I think that's pretty much the main 'twist' in a Werewolf game verses a Mafia game.

I don't know how it works. Last summer, we played a game called "Werewolf". This was with a group of people (all WoW players). I think there was 20 or so.

We would have a day phase where we'd all just yell around until we came down on a vote, and a night phase, where there were two werewolves that would cast their night vote, and then there was a seer that could investigate.

In mafia terms, there was 17 plain townies, 1 cop, 2 mafia. It was in its simplest terms, probably because most of the people were completely new to the game.

Drew, by your logic, if we lynch one players, assuming its a werewolf (if we're lucky), each day, then they infect one of us each night, then we'd never get rid of all of the werewolves, would we? They'd always be one ahead unless we got the single werewolf on day 1. I can't imagine the game being like that.

Maybe there's more to it.

I'm not sure what's more interesting here, Drew's comment, or Therul's deflection of it. On Day 1, either one could be hazardous. I'll have to think on it later. Maybe when I'm on the bowl

I already have, and feel more secure in it after reading the posts that came after it. I am also concerned about TheRul's deflection. I'll keep my vote where it is for now, and see what comes of it. Pressure isn't a bad thing on day 1.

So, what do you guys think we're dealing with here?
My thoughts:

We have 14 Players to start. With the 25% guideline, I'd guess 3+ Mafia unless there is Recruiting somehow. We can't be absolutely positive right now. I'd assume 3+ Mafia for now though.

Fair warning: New theme means new role names. You all know the rules, so this shouldn't be an issue.
This makes me think that the biggest change is the Theme, not so much the mechanics of the Game. So I would guess the Roles would be the same, Cop, Doc, Townies, Mafia, etc. but with Werewolf-ish names.

What do you guys think?

Re: [game] Werewolf

As much as a day 1 lineage lynch has been the norm, I feel bad for the guy. Last game he just wasn't into it and I couldn't blame him. If I was lynched day 1 for like 2-3-4 games, I wouldn't be too interested either.

Lineage always chimes in by now. I'd vote for him for pressure, but I think I voted for him for the "lulz" already (hi drew).
