#1. Vote him off, clear your name for killing one of your own. (If he's mafia)
#2. Vote him off for a free kill. (If he's town)
#3. Keep him on and hope he survives for a week and keep the game rolling while he rides it to the end of the game without suspicion. (If he's mafia)
#4. Keep him on to make it that much more difficult for the town to lynch an actual wolf. The wolves wouldn't likely lynch one of their own, which means getting a majority vote is going to be difficult with a silent townie. (If he's town).

We have never allowed a Player to be inactive for a (real time) week. The whole method to finding Mafia is by reading what they post, how do we do that with a Player who's gone for a week? And what if he's got some ability that we can use like Roleblocker or Cop?

I think that forcing people to analyze a situation or discuss a situation means there's a higher likelihood of someone screwing up.

Right now, we're looking at probably 3-4 bad guys and 1 doc. The chances of us pressuring a doc are slim, even though the odds were against us when drew got pressured.

What about some sort of reverse-mafia. We have a group of people that we feel relatively comfortable about, communicate openly, rather than privately (because we can't), and work together to pressure people into talking, or whatever.

Consider it like a union versus a big business. We're all a bunch of workers right now and the people at the top meet up and plan against us in private.

I decided this a few days ago. Looks like our game is improving at the same rate. Here's what I realized. If you pick up on someone's breadcrumb, a wolf may not. The wolf could role-claim, which means now you're convinced there's a conflict. Outting a crumb as a claim gives everyone else a look at your analysis, which means they're going to avoid conflict.

Also, a wolf could be bread crumbing, then you could come along and confirm their role for them and pretty much put them in the clear.

I've said this in every game for as long as I realized it. Inactives hurt the town and are also the safest vote. They don't vote, so it just makes it that much more difficult to get a majority vote. They don't use their night role. They're not following the thread.

Look at it this way. Let's take a nice even round number of 20 players. 25% is the standard formula for mafia from what I've seen (give or take 1 player). At 20 players, you'd expect 5 bad guys. At 20 players, it also means that you need 11 people to lynch.

If you're going to lynch a bad guy, you need to convince 11 pro-town players to vote against a bad guy, with 5 people who are fighting against you to do so. One inactive is "one less vote" to count on.

In all reality, you don't need more than 50% of the vote. You need damn near two thirds of the vote. You need 11 out of 16 (68.75%) of the pro-town players to vote against someone. Have 1 inactive and now it's 11 out of 15 (73.3%). Two inactives and now it's 11 out of 14 (78.5%).

It's possible that the only way those numbers would get in our favor is if the wolves saw the writing on the wall and jumped on the bandwagon for the hammer votes to clear their name, but you're also going to see a ton of doubt and deflection.

That's why I go after inactives. The odds of winning are severely against us thanks to them.

It seems the strategy used there is basically this: If they don't have clues, they lynch someone and hope for the best. Now it is different in a forum based game because we essentially have all the time in the world, until the mod puts out a limit due to stagnancy.

So, what's the better way? I say when we have nothing to go on, we pick someone and lynch them. I know that's not a very pro town thing to say, but you should have noted my impatience in games by now. The only other thing is to get people talking and hope they slip up, but that just leads to people overzealously going after innocent mistakes (Drew), and wrecking a power role.

I guess what it boils down to is this. Do you prefer pressuring everyone so that they role claim, which ruins multiple town roles in one day; or picking one person and lynching them, then seeing how the vote went down based on the result? Seems like those are the two big picture options. One way you have the potential to root out information, but at the same time out multiple people on the same day; while the other way only kills one person, hopefully keeping information that benefits the town secret from the scum, and hope to get lucky and/or get information based on the lynch.

Tell me if I'm not making sense.

His grandfather had taught him how to spin the pike just off the rushing surface of the stream. Those fish would leap out of the water...leap, just as that bullet leaped at him now.

His heart jumped at the startling noise, perhaps in an involuntary attempt to leap out of the way of the projectile. Instead they met each other squarely, and the tough muscle was no match. In that instant Paul's eyes radiated a chilling coldness that no one around could escape. His life erupted violently from his chest and back. Blood, then water, then blood again. Dead before he even hit the ground, Paul's motionless lump was the most lifelike there. The others watched intently for some indication of success.

After many minutes of nothing happened, several in the group moved to examine the body. What could they search for? Hair? Birthmarks? Teeth? None of these appeared on Paul. Despite a crude but thorough examination of the remains, nothing could be found that could describe Paulg as a werewolf.

Discouraged, they retired to their homes. Doors were locked and windows were shut, all in futility, as living through the night would be something more left to chance than vigilance.
