The one problem is that the units are fairly big (2u) for POPs. The company came out with a smaller unit, and it seems just about the right size »www.digital-loggers.com/lpc.html |

 | reply to rb384997 I-boot are great -- digital loggers as they said up there. They lan cards blow very often though. We've been through quite a few over the years. |

Chele join:2003-07-23 kudos:1 | reply to rb384997 The only thing we have had happen with Digital Loggers is that on one occasion, at two sites, the units defaulted back to factory settings. Not enough to tell you not to buy them, but just keep that in mind. I actually like them and they have saved us many trips to just reboot a radio. |

 | Chele -- When they default back to factory settings, do they cause any downtime for the network? Or autoping/etc just gets turned off?
Smeghead -- When they blow a lan card does that cause downtime?
Thanks |

Chele join:2003-07-23 kudos:1 | reply to rb384997 Yes, all the devices will be off. The outlets are set to "off" by default. We have firmware version 2.2.4, I don't know if that has been changed in the newer firmwares. This brings me to one negative, the only I can think of, against these units--they need to be sent back to the manufacturer for firmware upgrades. One of the units is at least 4 years old, just like Timex--"takes a licking, and keeps on ticking". |

All of the current models have a firmware update function built into the web interface. |

 | reply to rb384997 In response to the first post, yes, we do use Nighthawk Systems rebooters. The nice and unusual thing about them is the reboot is controlled by a pager signal - completely independently of the Internet. Since we have some wireless nodes which are accessible only by wireless Internet connection, having that alternative access option has been really helpful when the wireless radios have frozen up.
The service runs $30/mo but then only $1/mo extra per rebooter. »www.nighthawksystems.com/power.html |

 | reply to rb384997 Anyone seen one of these remote reboot devices that has some sort of power conditioning built in? That would be a great combo |

 | reply to leightonmv Sorry - the correct charge for the Nighthawk pager operated rebooters is $10/mo plus $1/mo for each extra rebooter (not the $30/mo I had originally mentioned). |
