anon : For now I see the large problem with power supplies for 2wire. I have some 2A 5V power and 5 1701hg's to work with: 3 - fully operational on adsl2+ modulation, 1 - dead after firmware upgrade and 1 more - constantly rebooting after some workout and doesn't support ADSL2+ modulation. They are all on the same firmware and from one production line. So I try to find out the problem.
So to my problem I still want to find the way to re-flash it using the other method except of web gui. The second thing I wanna do is to enable ssh or telnet daemon. Is there any possibility to add telnet support?

anon : Yeah, that port must be for flashing but I don't think it's RS232. Since it's a 1701 and that's an older platform, you might want to get the 2701 since it does have the ADSL2+ and improvements in hardware. Just watch out for the power supply. If you can, get one with the 3A output and you'll be golden.

anon : I've already contacted them but... common answer...

2wire answered:

If your gateway has failed, all replacements and troubleshooting are handled by the ISP that provided the equipment to you. I would suggest contacting them about possible replacement or purchase of a new gateway.
When I've opened the modem I saw some kind of data port on the front of the board, so I think there must be a connector with a rs232 port for example to re-flash it. Maybe someone knows?

anon : You've bricked the modem. The firmware version you tried to install was not designed for that hardware. Only way to fix it is to contact 2Wire and see if they will re-program the modem.

Firmware upgrade failure

anon : Hi ppl! Some time ago I've got 1701hg for my ADSL2+ line (country Ukraine). I was amazed to see that this modem doesn't support such modulation (reviews say opposite). After some surfing I saw that a firmware from 2700 4.xx.xxx and higher solve the problem of compatibility. So I've started to upgrade... Everything was fine and the process bar moved as it should be, but after modem restarted the power light started blinking green for about 10 minutes or so and then all lights - RED, so no ethernet ports available and absolutely no connection to device. There must be the way to turn the firmware back... linux can not die.

So any advice how to connect to the device would be perfect. Also any service manual would also be great as I saw some port on the front panel of the modem under the cover and to my opinion this is a service port to a brute firmware installation.
Everything is great in this toy but only no telnet/ssh connection.
