I just completed the upgrade and manually reentered everything (now I remember why it was so long between updates ;) ), and all looks good so far. I will keep my eyes on the logs to see if I missed anything or I see anything new.

1) backup your config (mark the FW revision in filename) ..just in case
2) take screenshots of your current configuration (for manual entry later)
3) reboot zywall
4) upgrade firmware (upload the .bin file)
5) reset to factory defaults (hold down the HW reset button for 10 sec, or reset through GUI)
6) reconfigure by hand from scratch, do not load old config

.rom is default configuration settings (same as factory reset)

I do not remember if I need to upload the .BIN file or the .ROM file first.

What is this firmware.xml file all about?

Is there a preferred / safer way to run this upgrade? Web interface? Telnet? Direct connection using the serial port?
