Considering how many homes they serve, I'm not surprised...

...that occasionally Comcast's installers commit blunders such as this.

And this one is understandable, though it is not excusable. The meter can is an old fashioned one that's just mounted on the wall, with no breaker panel on the other side to signal its presence. The installer should have measured to determine where his hole would come out and checked for obstacles, but apparently he didn't.

In our ISP's 17 year history, we've only once had a drill bit nick an electrical wire, and that was a wire which installed by the homeowner -- not an electrician -- and had no business being where it was. The repair was simple, though it did require cutting into the wall.
