Does This Exist ?

I did some searching here and elsewhere but I don't even know what to call this so I apologize if this has been covered over and over here.

Is there a router/firmware combo, either stock or the third-party, which has the ability to log into a web-based internet access system? You know, like they have at hotels and cruise ships where they assign you a login name and password and the first (and only) screen you get when starting up a browser is the welcome screen prompting for the credentials they previously gave you? My daughter has that system at her college apartment and also has a t-mobile wifi phone that I would like to get a wifi source for to cut down on minutes because we have unlimited wifi calling.

Again, sorry if this is a repeat.

Re: Does This Exist ?

Sounds like a job for Linux, which 3rd party firmware is based on, but as anything like a standard user feature I haven't seen it.

I've been playing with Linux scripts, purely as a novice, and had a router logging into our county-wide wifi system (now on hold) after a lot of work. It uses https which complicates it A LOT. The Linux tool is called "curl" which does https/web-SSL.

But maybe someone will come up with a more user-friendly idea.

Re: Does This Exist ?

I took "...log into a web-based internet access system?" to mean log into an existing system... not create such a system. BICBW.

I also may have jumped to the conclusion you wanted to automatically have the WAN of a router automatically log into a web-page sign in.

But just setting up the router so the WAN connects to another Access Point (AP) is relatively straight forward. Like using the AP as an ISP. But it may be called different things in different firmware. In OpenWrt it's often called "Routed Client" mode. I'm sure it's some form of "Wireless Client" mode in most 3rd party firmware.

But you may still have to access the web page to log in manually and, thus, enabling the connection.

Perhaps a pc with a second wireless adapter that can act in AP mode. With windows xp it is possible under internet connection sharing....never tried this with vista tho..
