Ok well I got disconnected and had the exact issue. The first hop out on the network is 64.235.192.24
This happened after the modem was disconnected from the net... I'm starting to wonder if it is something to do with routing through there as my first speedtest was 4.2Mbit and now I barely got 1Mbit.
Diskace could you elaborate on this finding? |

I would also run two ping probes from the router each time I reconnect, and save the results:
ping -q -c 20 -s 28 $( nvram get wan_gateway)
ping -q -c20 -s1420 $(nvram get wan_gateway)
(This could be fully automated, the results shipped offsite for permanent logging.)

Interesting, so you're saying that you weren't having any issues at all when your first hop was .25 but now that it's on .24 the issue seems to be back?
That could be pointing to either a hardware issue pertaining directly to the .24 gateway or depending on a few background details (model of the actual gateway) it could potentially be some kind of compatibility issue between that gateway and your modem? I know we've had numerous troubles with GNet modems, the surefire way to know if it's a compatibility thing or not would be to simply test with another modem and compare results.

Well like I stated when I got kicked off the net and checked my uptime it showed like 5 minutes. I didn't reset the modem at all during the .25 and as I stated I was playing with speedtest the whole time and downloading and was getting between 330-515KBps.
I don't know why I got disconnected though in the first place while gaming, which got me a bit confused. The connection dropped completely.
Why is it always the GNet modem that has issues? WHY??? Last time I had issues was with AEI that lasted 6 weeks until some "senior" tech stated there was an issue with their routing equipment causing for all the drops on the Internet. Funny I was only me having this issue and I called every day to report the issue and the time it was happening with full tracerts.
How come I can't always be routed through .25 and we could make it easier for the both of us? I guess I'll have to hit up diskace for a loaner modem as I don't know anyone else with a spare modem. |

What did the router's log say?
Did you check how many connections, with QoS Graph?
Oh, I seem to be repeating myself. :-(
Here's a bit of logic for those who may have a use for it:
If you get a reliable speed measurement at 4.2 Mb/s, then, as long as the modem does not resync, you *know* that any "speed" or "disconnect" problem is not a DSL issue.
(Any "speedtest measurement of more than 4.3 on a 5Mb/s profile is bogus.)
And something from experience:
Any "speed", performance, or "connectivity" issues that do not involve modem re-sync, but are associated with P2P applications are most likely rooted on the near side of the DSL link, and most probably due to NAT/conntrack connection surges.
Perhaps someone else with a similar problem may benefit from it, along with the suggestions I made in my first message in this thread.
I find it uncanny that the OP showed no interest in learning about the problem condition when it presented itself again, even after having received specific guidance about what to look for. |

It is not that I don't show interest in the issue, but I am having a hard time getting the darn modem page to work to see if I could get any info off of the modem itself. I tried multiple times to connect to the net without the router and just PC with modem and then running DMT tool but for some reason I was getting errors 691/718 which I know have to do with credentials. |

I know that it is easy to become consumed by struggling to pursue a singular path ... possibly to its dead end.
My preference is to take a broad, open approach, and not disregarding low-effort, high-insight diagnostic measures.
But whatever works, works, and it may well be more important to do what one feels one must do and be happy, than to try to employ methods that seem obscure, pointless, strange and unnatural, even though they are natural, easy, and effective for others.
Experience can open one's horizon through insight and understanding.
Or limit one's vision by force-fitting new experiences into old patterns. |

Ok here is a bit of an update. Never type clear in console of the modem hehe.
As I said, I do appreciate everyone's help on this issue. I had to reflash the modem as I typed clear. I made the mistake in thinking that I had the bb0060 modem when in fact I had the 50.
The firmware update gave me a proper screen to look into the settings and I will test it out some more.
Thanks to all of you and I'll monitor with the tools provided. |
