[netopia] static

I bought a Netopia 2241N-006 from Bellsouth while living in Louisiana. I moved to Missouri and MUST use Centurytel for telephone and internet service. I connected the Netopia modem a few days ago and now I have a static problem in my phones. Turn the modem off and the staic disappears.

I am assured by the Centurytel tech that the modem with filters are connected properly....but you couldn't prove it by me since I'm a pastor....not a techie.

Help!

Sounds like you have a bad filter. I would connect everything, and unplug one jack at a time and check the phone. One bad filter can cause problems for everything else.

By going off what you say, I would say it's the modem.

Does this modem have wireless capabilities?
Do you have 2.4G cordless phones?

If so, it may be interference between modem's wireless and your cordless phones.

I am also going to go with the bad filter idea, I have seen a few times, where one filter in the house was bad and put static on all the phones.

3rd vote for a filtering issue. Seen it many times, and as mentioned, if one phone/satellite receiver/fax/etc either doesn't have a filter, or has a bad filter, it can cause static on all the phones just as if you didn't even have filters.

It may be a redundant question, but you should double check each filter also and make sure each device is plugged into the phone side, and not the DSL side of the filters. Do you by chance have a house alarm system? If so, then even it needs a filter!
