And to note: my bill did not jump from a few minutes of tethered use. |

| reply to yabos I have a strange feeling that having hacked the carrier settings is what's causing my phone not to get reception here in London on either T-Mobile or Orange. Worked for a split second at the airport but never again. It sucks because I hav. A few offline maps that I can't use location services on because they rely on part on wifi or cell signals to get an initial fix. Others in my group have nonhacked iPhones and their's work fine. -- I am the Flying Photog, see my website accordingly named Flyingphotog.com. User known formerly as zakooldude. |

| reply to Matt Successfully enabled tethering on my Jailbroken 3.0 3G! I haven't tried it out yet but everything else on the phone is functioning normally, ex camera, visual voicemail etc.
I too am kind of concerned about billing. Thank you Matt for letting us know there were no unusual charges... I hope it stays this way when tethering is officially released. -- Follow me on twitter!

| reply to tommy3rd said by tommy3rd :anyone get their bill yet? i don't want to get nailed with a huge bill, so i gotta make sure there's no extra charge. I just got mine a week or so ago. I probably only used 1-2MB of tethering, but there were no extra charges. |

| reply to yabos I used the benm.at carrier update and MMS is working great. Have sent and received from people on AT&T and Verizon with no issues.
However.. the tethering option appears in my settings menu. When I enable it and connect to my PC it works for about 3 minutes then the connection drops and the tethering option disappears from the settings menu. If I re-load the carrier file from benm.at it comes back, but just disappears after a few minutes again.. anyone else experiencing this?

| reply to yabos I did the tethering hack and now my battery meter seems to stick at 100% sometimes. I'll charge it at night and it will be fine the next morning but stay at 100%. After a few hours I'll reboot the phone and it will drop to something like 89% and start working normal from that point on.
Anyone else see this? -- -BKuhl

| reply to yabos I tried this out and it worked great. This is so much easier then the way had to do it under 1.x and 2.x. I put up a tutorial for both USB and Bluetooth for Mac users.

| reply to Midak said by Midak :Ok, this is really frustrating. I can now get it to work on two PC's but still not on the iMac. The second PC only worked once I installed iTunes 8.2, which I do have on the iMac. I am leaving in an hour and really want to get this working. Does anyone know how to force the iMac to search for this network connection or install a driver? Anyone? See other thread. | reply to Matt said by Matt :said by ptrowski :Hmm, I updated the IPCC, rebooted etc. Got the updated info from the help site and can add a picture to a MMS and it goes 4/5 of the way to send and then gets an error. Any thoughts? MMS doesn't work yet. I get the same thing. Thanks Matt. Interestingly enough it doesn't even show up now. I tried uploading the IPCC but the camera isn't even there. | reply to Midak I just tried this and, in fact, am posting this from my MBP connected through bluetooth to the iPhone which is tethering away. I had to pair the MBP with the iPhone; at the conclusion of that process, it said it was creating the net "Personal Area Network" which shows up in my list of networks.
I was unable to connect to the phone as long as my BT mouse was on, however. Once I turned that off, it worked great. I just turned the mouse on again and both appear to be working. Yay!
Still no luck with the MMS thing, however. |

| reply to Matt So maybe a driver issue? Anyone to fix this on the iMac without losing all of my itunes settings, playlists, etc? I really want to bring the iMac instead of the Dell laptop with me on this trip since everything I currently use is on my iMac and the laptop just doesnt cut it anymore. Is there a way to force the iMac to look for new hardware and specify the iPhone ethernet adaptor? |

| reply to Midak said by Midak :8.2 is installed on the iMac (not working) and on the PC (XP) that is working. The other two do not have iTunes. I thought you only needed iTunes to get tethering unlocked on the phone? That is odd. I know if you plug an iPhone into Windows without iTunes installed, the correct drivers aren't installed. I'm not sure if Vista and Windows 7 come with the correct drivers, I just ASSumed that since the iPhone in tethering mode was automatically picked up and installed as a "Apple Mobile Device Ethernet" -- and the driver was provided by Apple on 4/30/2009 (netappl64.sys), that iTunes installed it. |
