I agree with Bad Bing for the list you provided.

I have had Magellan's, Mio's and Garmin's. Even the older Garmin Nuvi (650) blows away the newest of Magellan's and Mio's GPS devices. To me, Garmin is worth the extra money and quite often, you can find a refurbished Garmin Nuvi 750 for around $149 on Newegg and other websites.

The newer Garmin x55 series provides Lane Assistance, but many find this distracting. Also, with Garmin, I feel much more confident that map updates will be made available for much longer than Magellan or Mio's. I have a Magellan RoadMate that hasn't had a map update since 2006. They are done providing updates, so to me, it is a brick

garmin is the absolute way to go. easiest to use and by far the best GUIs.

just keep in mind, there are many Nuvi's with very similar names...250/255/260, 350/360, etc. usually these are just slightly new models with updated maps. the 250 and 255 i believe are almost identical but came with newer map pack. sometimes they might add a specific feature like bluetooth. 'w' means 4.3" widescreen when that model also has a standard 3.5" version. if there is no 3.5" version then theyre all probably 4.3" and there wont be a 'w' model.

Amazon just shipped the 780 to me. At $200, I thought it is a very good price. »www.amazon.com/Garmin-780-Widesc···1&sr=8-1

My Garmin Streetpilot 2720 has worked fine for years, but time for an upgrade.

I'm using a 2610 and it does everything I need a GPS to do. Just curious why you felt the need to upgrade to a new unit.

Ran into a couple times where I really could have used the 2720, but the wife was using it. Now we each have our own and with the built in battery I can easily mount it to the motorcycle.

The guy who wrote the software for this thing should be fired. He certainly doesn't understand the term "user friendly". When you add a location, instead of taking you back to the main screen, you have to hit the back button as much as eight times to get back to the main screen. Idiot! I'm also disappointed that detailed lane info isn't available. I thought it would be a standard feature by now. There were a few times with the 2720 where I entered a confusing intersection and had to look at the screen to see where to go. Forget about it with this unit. I also thought that one review said this came with lifetime traffic, it didn't. To get traffic info I had to buy the MSN service, it didn't come separate. It does have some neat features, the handsfree bluetooth is really cool. My cell phone contacts come right up on the screen and the quality of the sound when talking is pretty good.

Re: GPS, Which Would You Buy!?

You are hitting one of my greatest peeves with Garmin.
Instead of updating the firmware of their devices to add new features they insist on creating a new line of units.

As of right now the one Gamins that offer the lane assist feature is the 7*5T and 8*5T series plus a few others (1350+T, 1370T, 1390T, 1490T, 1690). I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to add lane assist to the previous 7*0 and 8*0 lines.

I also have a few rants about the Mobile XT and Mobile PC line that I won't go into right now.

Re: GPS, Which Would You Buy!?

They could probably even add lane assist to the 6x0 line of Nuvi's. They simply choose not too. They could nickel and dime us for software/firmware updates, but they choose not to I want a Power User Nuvi that is fully customizable. I bet it would sell like hotcakes.

Re: GPS, Which Would You Buy!?

From what I recall the closest they had to a power user Nuvi was the 7200. However, Garmin set it up to fail, had no battery and a 5 inch screen that priced it out of most users range.

From what I recall the 7200 had most of the customization features from the 26xx and 27xx series.

For got where I read it but Garmin had stated the limitations to end user customization was because they did not want to have a product that would overly confuse the end user.

Hold the back button for a second or 2, and you'll be back at the main screen.

I have a new TomTom that I am happy with.
The Lane Assist is great, especially when 1 exit branches into 3.
The maps are also updated about 4x a year and cost less than the other ones.
Maps are pretty close across the board, see which offers the extras you need. Hands free blue tooth for phone calls, lists of area activities, traffic, etc

Yet another vote to look at Garmin.

I still have an old II+ handheld, traded in a iQue3600 (Palm OS) for a refurb Nuvi 250 to go in my truck, and recently bought a Nuvi 255W for the wife. She was very resistant to it initially, but now she really appreciates it.

I like the simple interface and now that they offer an option for lifetime updates, it made it a no-brainer for me.

Just bought a new Garmin 775T, and the thing rocks! My Magellan was 3 years old, and man, did they put some nice things into it to work with.

Still exploring it, but I'm very impressed. As Bryon See Profile said, the lifetime updates are a no-brainer. I'll get them in a month or 2, as I just got the free update to the 2010.20 maps.

I am the type of person who loves researching a trip on maps, but I bought a Garmin 255W and decided to try using only that on a trip out to WV. Worked flawlessly and I didn't get lost once. Definitely worth the price.

The only thing about Garmins that annoy me is the absurd number of models and the difficulty in figuring out which are the newest ones. I'm going to have to get a new one for myself because I loaned mine to my 19 year old nephew and I don't think that I'll be taking it back. I rather that he use it to easily find his way home from wherever he wanders.

The xx5 series are the newest. Hope that helps you choose. But, make sure the one you get can make routes! A very handy feature.

I heard the order of GPS's go like this (from best to worst)

Garmin
TomTom
Magellan

Basically that Magellan sucks overall.... I have a tomtom and it works pretty well but my friend has a Garmin and I think it's better than my TomTom (the Garmin seems faster & speaks the street names, although mine is almost 2 yrs old so maybe the newer versions of TomTom have this?) just my 2 cents.
