FatCow relentlessly slow. Is my money down the drain?

In April, I paid $57 for a year of hosting at FatCow - »www.fatcow.com/

Page loads are god awful slow. I have two domains hosted on my webspace at FatCow, and you can visit them yourself to see how pitiful the service is:

The pages load just as slow within the Wordpress UI. It's so bad that I don't even want to use it. Do I have any chance of a refund or some kind of transfer to a faster host, or am I screwed out of that money?

EDIT: P.S. I'm thinking about just hosting my blog off a PC at my parent's house. Their connection is something like 8000/768 and I really don't expect more than a hundred hits a week at most.

Really slow here as well, more than likely their server are massively oversold and overloaded, which is pretty common with shared hosts. Contact them and see about a refund due to terrible service. I doubt you parents have port 80 open on their connection unless its a business connection, as well you will spend more electricity powering the computer for the websites than you would paying for the hosting.

Both of your sites are really slow, 15-20seconds each. Even the fatcow.com loaded slower then a host should....

It loads very slow for me too, I hope they have a decent sized server, your IP is : 65.254.254.34...You can see how many websites are hosted on that server here :

It took about 5-6 seconds to load for me.

twizlar, I've contacted them about it. Strangely, willmakeitwork.com loads immediately now. Hmm, wonder if they gave me more bandwidth or something since I made the ticket. On the other hand, spacegazelle.com (same as sg.willmakeitwork.com) doesn't load immediately, but it's only a 2-3 second wait. Before, it took about 10 seconds for both domains to load.

The FatCow support told me run in cmd "tracert (domainname) ".

What exactly does this do? I ran it, but I can't copy the output. How do I copy output from command prompt?

The tracert just tells you your latencies at all of the hops toa destination, in your case your website.

They are trying to determine if it's a network issue, or a server issue. I ping 40~ or so to the web server, and it still loads slow, so imo it's a server issue.

To copy lines from CMD prompt, you can right click on the blue bar where it says 'Command Prompt' , go hover over EDIT, and left click on mark.

Now just use your curser to drag an area around what you want to copy off. Now right click that blue bar up top again and hover over EDIT, and left click copy.

Now you can paste into an email, or whatever you wanted to paste it into.

That's how I do it, if there is another way, someone else chim in :P.

It doesnt appear to be a bandwidth or routing problem, just very slow server response to http requests. This USUALLY indicates an overloaded server processor wise.

ding ding, or something in your wordpress script is mucked up. I had a guy whose wordpress site would take about 25 seconds to load, because of some bugged wordpress code...let me see if I can find that for you.

Click for full size
Use a tool called firebug, with YSLOW and it will help you pinpoint your issue.

attached is a picture from what I found out.

It's missing cat.gif so it's taking longer to load?

twizlar, you said it could be a very slow server response to http requests. What can I do about that?

Look at the first GET command, it takes 5.46 seconds to get the website, and I ping about 40-50 to that server, so it's something wrong with the server imo.

Agreed, server issue, only your host can fix it.
