| reply to ispgeek Re: D-Link Banning Users and Deleting Posts Critical Of D-Link
said by ispgeek :Tipster I don't disagree but times are tough and people just don't have the money to throw out equipment they just spent $150 or more on. The amount of time it takes to file the BBB complaint is about 10 minutes and the response time is about 48 hours depending on if its a weekend or not. Filers are given two options from D-link that I know of so far. (1) Replacement or (2) money back. And honestly at this point it goes way beyond the money.... Today you can spend any amount for wireless router doesn't have to in the hundreds. Dirt cheap or less than $59 new or $15 used or factory serviced. These prices are popping up more and then lets not forget the good old ebay crowd.
Good luck with your fight for justice! |

| reply to ispgeek Hi There;
I am a DIR-855 owner (even more expensive than the DGL4500) and man is that a paper weight.
Well I started off all nice on the forums at DLink regarding bad firmware and the attitude of the mods.... well lets just say I didn't stand for it.
The mods, pushed me and I created a blog to fire back. Funny how that now works, I have posted stuff on the forum that should have been deleted and myself banned, yet they won't touch me now.
My blog has been up for approx 2 months now and getting a respectable amount of traffic. The interesting thing is that those who were looking to buy one, read my blog and then went to a different brand.
Suffice to say that the mods nolonger post on the dir-855 forum after many criticized their lack of customer service.

The Netgear WNDR3700 is rock solid. I received the router about 9 days ago. Started it up, automatically updated the firmware. Then set up my DHCP reservations and let it rip. It has been up ever since not one single problem. The wireless range is unreal. I have a fairly big home and have the router on the top floor. 2 floors down in the basement I get 86% connection on 2.4 and 46% on the 5 MHz. Blew away the DIR 825 where on 5 G the best I ever saw was 19%.
I have had 0 disconnects and the router is lightning fast. I have 4 wireless pc's connected one running gaming and one hard wired at 1000. Its perfect. The Dlink products are garbage due to the firmware. I had started with the DIR 655 with firmware 1.11 and it was rock solid. That now sits at 1.32 and is junk. Then got the DIR 825 rev B1 same thing disconnects like crazy and random. My wife almost failed an online course due to the disconnect. She pleaded with the instructor and he gave her another chance. That next test was on the WNDR3700 with no problem.
Its a disgrase that they banned me for trying to get them to fix the problems in their product, sort of censorship if you ask me. I am done with Dlink they are burying that company with the programmers they have.
One more note. The DIR-825 is the first router that I have owned that does NOT STEALTH all ports. Port 0 and 1 show closed. You can check at shieldup site with a full port scan. Every router Dlink or other has been Stealth on ALL ports including the WNDR3700. Showing closed gives a reply back to a would be hacker as STEALTH does not give any reply and the IP is invisible.

| reply to Puffnstuff Amazon has 30% off the WNDR3700 putting it roughly at the same price brand new as the DGL-4500. I'm planning to pick it up to replace my DGL-4500. It appears the mods don't even bother touching the 4500 forums anymore. The last iteration for firmware has horrible performance, and sadly it is the official firmware available for download.
There isn't much else I can disable on the D-Link. Mine doesn't run its wireless radio or have DNS relay enabled. All the QoS settings are hardcoded so there is no dynamic analysis for traffic. The firewall has CPU intensive features turned off, and performance is still subpar.
It's just not worth the hassle anymore. Maybe I can smash my old router into little pieces and ship it to D-link support, but considering today's political climate, they might mistake that as a threat. |

I ordered the router last night from Amazon, and it's already been shipped today. It looks like they got some more in stock. |

You will soon find all the information here and from other sites being posted virtually everywhere including every D-Link hardware review. The original receipt would be a big help. If you don't have it where did you buy the router? Based on your credit card info compusa will be able to pull the original receipt. If you bought from anything mail order you have access to the original through their website. If you don't have the original don't worry though. It doesn't matter, the firmware they released caused the damage and they are still responsible warranty or not. Plus D-Link can check the serial number and check close enough that way. -- This is my favorite Broadband Speed Test site. Can't find me here? Try there! |

| Well a mod posted in the d-link forum that they've got new fw coming that should fix the problem with the routers locking up and will release it to select peeps to test. I can hardly wait to see if it really works and if the problems are truly solved with this router. |
