jebediah posted : If they're deleting posts on their forums regarding product defects that customers are experiencing, and/or banning the authors of those posts, people should know about it. Whether the poster 'spammed' such an experience a few times or not is immaterial. Deletion of negative press is effectively an admission there is a problem, and whatever the deleted subject matter was, is more than likely the truth.

The fact of the matter is, if there's a defect in a product, customers have every right to hear about it, and every right to know if it's being covered up. Obviously, Dlink thinks otherwise, or else they wouldn't have just deleted the posts, but would have responded to them. If the posts weren't correctly identifying a problem, one would think they'd be more than happy to verify that right then and there, and put the whole issue at rest. Lock the thread, but don't delete posts, respond to them, and if able to prove the author's statements false, go ahead and ban him.

I'm probably in the minority, but I think it's pathetic they deleted those posts. I'd read about the alleged problems people were having with their DGL-4500 routers, but I didn't really think it was much of a problem, and possibly more user related than a hardware/software defect. I've owned the DGL-4300 which was rock solid until it died after nearly 3 years service. The single act of erasing posts in their forum; well, now I believe it's true. I'll be looking elsewhere for my next router.

BHNtechXpert posted : Ok Folks,

It would appear that this latest firmware fix while it may have fixed a majority of the 3 day lockup issues it still leaves unfixed a ton of other problems including wireless. Almost universally the wireless issues have remained the same or in several cases become worse than before based on the multitude of forum complaints I've read over the past 6 days.

To make things worse, D-link is telling those who who recently filed BBB complaints that they want them to try the firmware instead of replacing or refunding the router. This is a stalling tactic folks and don't fall for it. Whatever you do..do not allow the BBB to close the case against D-link until you have received satisfaction.

This is how they are tricking you folks. Instead of filing a response to issues raised by the consumer through the BBB arbitration process what they are doing is filing a FINAL RESPONSE FROM COMPANY. You get the email and then by BBB rules you have a short time to respond with your acceptance or refusal. IF YOU FAIL TO RESPOND the BBB closes your case favorable to D-Link (and this is what they are counting on).

DO NOT ALLOW THE BBB OR DLINK TO DO THIS TO YOU! If they push the firmware nonsense on you immediately refuse the offer through the BBB portal and demand either immediate replacement or refund for the cost of your router.

Also...if D-Link all of sudden stops responding to you via email (which they have done in several cases) then you need to immediately notify the BBB through the portal or even better yet call them or fax them with the details (remember to keep everything).

D-link is sneaky folks, have doubts read all the posts from me in this thread...it should clear things up nicely. Do not trust them under any circumstances (remember, the only way you could get any results was to file a BBB complaint..what does this tell you about D-Link?)

Once again if you have any questions at all or need help let me know either in this thread or by pm or you can contact me directly at help@d-linkfixmyrouternow.info
--
This is my favorite Broadband Speed Test site. We finally got some code but we are not releasing it out yet to you guys. You know what happened last time everyone got the code and didn't like it. That said we are hand picking customers to try out this code and waiting for their feedback. It's not going to be released as soon as you think. We will be testing in our environment, which btw we never see the issue in house. Customers that we have picked will be testing out this code and we will wait for there results. If we get enough positive feedback from those selected customers we will make a decision to post it here as beta for you to try or not. It will all depend on testing results.

Sorry it has been this long and we may have lost you as a customer and wish you the best of luck on finding a new router. For those that are still around we are working on a fix.

Nevermind. I found it. That last sentence is unreal though. They couldn't care less that they lost a ton of customers. Oh and D-link...your post today stops nothing. The time where we might have considered giving you a break is long over. Every review, every forum, every gamer site, you name it is going to have access to these threads and all related issues with your products and customer service.
chascent posted : Truth,

The Netgear WNDR3700 is rock solid. I received the router about 9 days ago. Started it up, automatically updated the firmware. Then set up my DHCP reservations and let it rip. It has been up ever since not one single problem. The wireless range is unreal. I have a fairly big home and have the router on the top floor. 2 floors down in the basement I get 86% connection on 2.4 and 46% on the 5 MHz. Blew away the DIR 825 where on 5 G the best I ever saw was 19%.

I have had 0 disconnects and the router is lightning fast. I have 4 wireless pc's connected one running gaming and one hard wired at 1000.
Its perfect. The Dlink products are garbage due to the firmware. I had started with the DIR 655 with firmware 1.11 and it was rock solid. That now sits at 1.32 and is junk. Then got the DIR 825 rev B1 same thing disconnects like crazy and random. My wife almost failed an online course due to the disconnect. She pleaded with the instructor and he gave her another chance. That next test was on the WNDR3700 with no problem.

Its a disgrase that they banned me for trying to get them to fix the problems in their product, sort of censorship if you ask me. I am done with Dlink they are burying that company with the programmers they have.

One more note. The DIR-825 is the first router that I have owned that does NOT STEALTH all ports. Port 0 and 1 show closed. You can check at shieldup site with a full port scan. Every router Dlink or other has been Stealth on ALL ports including the WNDR3700. Showing closed gives a reply back to a would be hacker as STEALTH does not give any reply and the IP is invisible.

Charlie C
