3web/CIA Caps?

Hey,

I've heard that people with 3web/CIA in Rogers areas have caps on them 60Gb-100Gb has anyone here ever been shut off or know someone who has been?

Those caps are worse than rogers, I switched to avoid the caps.

Nope. I don't do it personally, but I know at least five people in my area that are on the CIA service and they routinely use around 200GB without a peep from CIA.

Nothing on my side either..while it's slowed down I can easily reach 3-400gb on a good month

If your IP is rogers than you run that risk.

For now, there is no cap. That is changing.

When I called and asked, the guy on the other end who seemed intelligent told me on the cable side in rogers areas is capped at 100 gigs... Rogers controls this and apparently has in the past cut people off..

BS, Rogers has no say, they only provide transit, 3web buys it's own bandwidth from Cogent

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

That's what the DSL wholesalers thought too. Let's wait and see what the CRTC says about that one.

elwoodblues, not quite. There are two classes of 3web users. Those where 3web has equipment in the headend, and therefore uses a separate backhaul, or those where Rogers provides the backhaul to an RNC (Regional Network Centre) and then splits it off to CIA. In the first case, you look totally like a 3web/cia customer. In the second case, you look like a Rogers customer, with Rogers IP and Rogers routing until it's split off to 3web.

Rogers do have say over customers where they provide the IP and routing. They don't have say over the customers where 3web provides the routing. Rogers have been known to limit customers where they provide the IP, although I haven't heard of any cutoffs or complaints lately. The 3web people don't tell about the difference, and will tell you that you're not throttled/that you are throttled, that you aren't capped/that you are capped. Or to put it simply, they don't know!

Very interesting....

Intially (years ago) I had a Rogers IP when I first hooked up with 3web,eventually it migrated to a CIA IP.

I'm currently with a DSL reseller, but should these "BELL 60 gig CAPS" happen, CIA cable is an option.. I much rather have 10 mb service for 80 a month instead of 5mbps service for 80 a month. 175 gigs a month usage for home and work from home use could be costly under the new plan by bell for wholesale.
