said by anuknowthis :I recently had a very trying encounter with EL. I decided to get my home phone disc. because I wasn't using it. Well EL then proceeded to place a disconnect order for my DSL . Once I realized them, called and explained, I was told by "an American" that I did need home phone service. OK, so here I go and get connected to home phone again, only to find out EL wants to sign me up for a "new" acct meaning a "new" contract . That's right as you broke the DSL service agreement/contract by your action of canceling your phone service that was line sharing attached to your DSL service. So yes, it is correct that you would have to start over with a new contract.
When you cancel your home phone service, that automatically cancels your Earthlink DSL service as you have broken the contract terms. You agreed to keeping your Phone Service active in order to have Earthlink DSL. If you cancel or disconnect your phone service your DSL goes bye bye with it as that is how line sharing DSL works.
»[General] Cancel home phone but keep EL DSL?
Only people in Verizon service areas can order DSL without having a phone, but that is only become available for the last two plus years so it is a new program just implemented and only in Verizon areas.
EarthLink Freestanding DSL Internet - no phone company required. »www.earthlink.net/access/dsl_fre···ng.faces
The support phone number you posted is useless as the PIN is changed each week and if you don't have an active trouble ticket they can redirect you to regular support. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? | | anuknowthis

| I recently had a very trying encounter with EL. Long story short, in my area, DSL is the only service aside from dial up. After 2 days of talking to what seemed like an entire family from India, Egypt, Peru, or somewhere (I'm very impatient) and getting transferred an avg. of 3 times per call, about 15 calls total, I finally decided to call and cancel service. What do you know, I am talking with an American , she explains exactly what is going on including the provisioning details, and because it is after hours for my local home service provider, I have to wait until Monday to speak with someone in reference to canceling. During this time, yes, I am able to "use the free back up 20 hours of dial up provided to me in my acct" . I decide to go to ATT with my local home service and see if DSL is avail, which I know it is, I've had it for 10 yrs. I qualify, and am on my way to an acct with ATT. Service was on the next day. I just had to use EL dial up to download ATT software (remember I am very impatient). I am up and running now...WOO HOO!!! But I would like to leave this number...it is for the Senior Rep dept @ EL...866-860-1053 pin # 6000. It will most likely get you to an American or either say "cancel acct" when prompted by the auto voice response. It helps!! I hope I never have to go back to EL again, their customer service stinks, the transfer rate is extremely high, and good luck understanding them. I did call in after I connected other connection and had no problem canceling. I canceled twice, once via chat, then called to confirm. It was a trying 8 days, but I'm smooth surfing again. -- ~Because you do what you gotta do, to get done what gotta get done!~ | |
